very nice . . . . .
-
-
That's pretty nice. However, unlike most of the FX line, it doesn't provide wireless N. For me, that would be a show stopper.
-
hmm
"Sold Out!
We’re sorry. This system is no longer available. New product coming soon"
Interesting -
Nice CPU, but I'll take my 5400RPM 320Gb HD over that 200Gb 7200RPM anyday.
-
you can always take out the hard drive.
-
Right, or, you could just buy the 6860, upgrade the CPU, and bam... you're set.
-
If you are really interested, call them. I just bought this computer this morning. I haggled a bit and was able to get it for 1300.00 flat shipped to me. The rep said that they still had a few even though it says it's sold out.
-
or i could buy this laptop and not need to upgrade the processor for more than a HARD DRIVE would cost me

And you can get the t9300 for the extra cost you'd incurr from the extra hard drive -
yeah if i buy it refurb or off Ebay.
I tried looking at buy.com and none were there, also on Best Buy's website, it's discontinued.
They still might have some in the store if i bothered to go look. -
pointless arguement considering 6860s are almost sold out.
and is the 173x fx now it seems. -
that's what i was thinking
that's why i was nonplussed by KGann -
I think you would of been better off waiting for the 7811. 1900*1200, 9800GTS, P8400, DDR3... For $100, thats alot of improvement.
-
link me it? article or something?

I think alot of stores still have them as bestbuy/gateway is trying to get rid of its existing stock.
My little sister (i say that shes like 23 now) just picked one up for the 1099 price they had it for during the 4th sale. So some pretty good deals are still around if you talk to the right people in the right stores.
Or yeah you could wait for the p7811fx... it seems to be a pretty sweet deal -
And if you wanna throw the term "genius" out, why don't you turn the finger around. Try not posting comments like this-
"If you want 100FPS, you need 512m of VRAM". Seriously?
Okay, lets try another.
"No, a 7200RPM HD is faster no matter what". Wrong.
Should we go again?
I use this forum to help people, unlike you, who use is a vicarious way to try and spew your skewed point across the internet from behind a monitor.
Now, for a real recommendation- wait for the Best Buy version. $1,400 with a higher resolution, new platform, 9800m GTS, etc.

BAM! "And he layeth the smackdown upon thy NBR bretheren!"
BTW, KGann, I just work up about an hour ago(Yes, I suck) so, I'll start on that Acer review here shortly. -
Awesome Dook, be great to read the review!
-
You remind me more of the sales guys at the Nissan dealership trying to sell me a brand new car I don't need when I'm there getting my 2006 model maintenced.
It's great you like your 6860, but you honestly don't need to go from thread to thread trying to push it on me.
For the price of it plus the upgrade, for slightly more, I could get a decent specced Sager notebook and it would be more high quality than the Gateway.
When I spend my money I'm going to buy quality, not the cheapest one trick pony out there. -
One trick pony? See, I have not "pushed" the Gateway on you. You asked recommendations for a gaming notebook in your range... which is the Gateway.
It's your money, buy whatever you want. If your price range was +$1,500, I wouldn't say buy the Gateway. I would say shoot for a Sager, but under $1,500, the Gateway is still supreme.
One trick pony? I'm lost on this reference. If by one trick pony, you mean quality built, stellar performing, fantastic over-all notebook, then yes, it is a One Trick Pony.
Like I said, buy what you want, but don't come asking for advice then getting pissy when people advise you to buy a certain notebook. If there was any other notebook that could perform the same in this price range, aside from the HDX, I would say go for it... but there isn't, and I feel obliged to let people know when a good bargain is around.
Is the Gateway the best computer in the world? Not a chance. Is it the best "Bang for your Buck?" Yes. -
I'm not going to argue with you, it's pretty pointless because you're so narrowminded.
Anyway, this new Gateway laptop should be a better buy if I hear some good feedback on it, it has nice specs. -
Apparently you ARE going to argue with him, as you keep replying. And I agree it IS pointless, as no one said anything remotely close to offensive towards you and you start throwing a tantrum. No one here is particularly biased towards Gateway. We buy the laptops for what they provide, not for the name brand. If it weren't for the great deal of the 68XX series, you can bet there would be a lot less people in this particular forum. Gateway makes decent laptops, with good specs, for a great price. It's kind of hard to deny that.

i didn't single anyone out but KGann, so keep the generalizations to a minimum

This thread is now closed since it is getting out of hand and has deteriorated into nothing more than pointless bickering.
