Hi, I know this thread might have been done to death, but I don't want to mess anything up. I have a 7805 and I think some problems might be due to heat OR messed up clock speeds. Could someone explain undervolting in a simple process, and GOOD reliable GPU clock speeds, slightly overclocked is fine by me. If this fails I think I might be forced to send my 7805 into Gateway T_T and if It has to be replaced I will most likely lose my 1900x1200 screen!
    Thanks so much in advance!

I have a 7801u (essentially the same as 7805u except resolution) and I'm also curious about what people got for their undervolting (CPU) and overclocking (GFX card) numbers. The 7811 FX should have the same numbers as the two laptops because the processor and graphics card are the same. (7811 fx has a 512MB instead of the 1GB 9800m GTS card).

How did you test stability and for how long?
I ran rthdribl last night on my comp and it locked up after an hour.
How long did you run to confirm stability?

What are the performance gains? Any increased battery life? Better gaming performance?

At those clocks, there would actually be a performance loss (in most cases) when using RMClock to undervolt. You lose the .5x multiplier on the CPU, and with it about 100mhz. To make up for the loss, I have to push the GPU to at least 670/970/1780. I don't undervolt for that reason. But if you are keeping your .5x multiplier, then you'd get a decent performance boost. At those clocks and with the CPU running at full speed, I get about 2-4 fps on most games, and a 3dmark06 boost of around 400. Of course, if you know a way to undervolt and keep that .5x multiplier, then you need to pm me ;).

I'm sticking with stock settings then. It's a great laptop to start with so I'm not going to modify anything.

The CPU's clock speed is determined by the front side bus speed * CPU multiplier. The P8400's (7811's stock CPU) multiplier is 8.5x, so when you take away that .5x multiplier, it becomes 8.0x, which in turn lowers the CPU's clock speed.

And if anyone knows how to undervolt w/o losing the.5x multiplier, then you have to let me know, or post a faq, or something.

I just recently underclocked my proc... literally had a 20 degree cooldown. I think thats worth the 100mhz loss in my case. But, to each his own.

hmm thats bizarre you lose a .5 multiplier because i start with .5 more for some reason. heres a picture of Everest showing yah what i mean. (it shows this under cpu-z as well) i dunno what this is all about but meh i aint complaining lol

Well I undervolted, and i run idle about 19C cooler, and under full load i run 15C cooler, and i cant see any noticable performance issues. I'd say its worth the .5x multiplier.

lol i found undervolting so easy. It only took me like 3 hours to find the good stable then i just ran it over night to confirm. I could probably go lower if i felt like it.

I've never undervolted only because I don't want to have the extra process running in the background 24/7. (If I saw heat problems in the CPU, then that would take priority over another background process though).

My overclock is 698/998/1798 and it has never seen the slightest bit of instability nor heat problems. I would suggest those clocks (tested and suggested by the legendary E-wrecked).
