For those of you who remember this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/439488-guide-gpu-undervolting-78xx-series.html

It turns out you can't change your voltage through nibitor. Following the instructions only changes the label, not the actual voltage.

See this thread for an explanation:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/437706-9800m-gts-voltages.html

For more info press the question mark on the voltage table editor in nibitor.

This whole time I had thought I had my GPU undervolted. It turns out I was wrong.

I am thinking our GPU's are limited by the voltage they receive, not the clocks (to what extent I don't know).

    So it is agreed then...

You CANNOT modify the 9800m GTS' voltage through software. The only possible way *AFAIK* (prove me wrong) is through a hardware mod, which has never been done on this GPU.

I wish it was possible so that we can extend the lifespan of this legendary *imho* laptop.

A 1200 3DMark06 (including hardware modification to increase stock cpu speed) for a laptop that went on sale two years ago would be awesome.

So why are there results when you undervolt your GPU? Didn't understand your point, sorry.

The tag value is changed but the actual hardware voltage is not.................

TAN, I understood this part and your point, but what I just don't understand is: if only the value is changed, and not the real voltage (meaning that the system remains the same, with no changes at all), why some reports that they got increases in FPS and lower temps?

    Thanks

They are however eliminating the memory timing switch, the 2d to 3d timing switch causes the card to hang slightly at least and in some cases a major hang. This hang can happen as in a micro stutter causing a reduced frame rate and increased temps from the adjustments or lockups etc.

also keeping from the 2d timings will increase frame rates but where you already are getting high numbers. Not neccesarily where you have low numbers where you notice slow rates..............

Edit; even with power mizer off the system to cool the memory/gpu may try and switch to lower clockings for extremely short periods. The vbios mod places the 3D timing to the first step of the 2D causing switching less often even though the card still tries to bring it down the one step and back up when ready..............

Edit 2; While I do not have a heat issue, with 9c.23.00 I run powermizer on. I know this increases 2D-3D timing issues but to lower them I run vsynch on so that useless frames are not being generated helping to keep the card cool as well. Plus less tareing that way too.
