My CD/DVD Rom stopped working a few weeks ago. I went on Gateway's Customer Support website and followed all of the tests/directions. Through the Device Manager, I discovered that my CD/DVD rom had a yellow exclamation mark next to it. I followed Gateway's directions and uninstalled the CD-rom.
Following more directions from Gateway, I went searching for the Gateway Recovery Center to reinstall the CD-rom. Lo and behold, I do not seem to have the Gateway Recovery Center on my computer. I contacted Gateway's live chat, but because the warranty on my computer is expired, they give me a generic response and tell me to contact a local technician.
I found a thread on here about going in through your D drive to somehow "pick out" the Recovery Center, but I do not have the technological knowledge to even begin to follow those directions.
MY QUESTION: Even though I don't have the internal CD-rom installed on my computer, if I were to go out and buy and install an external CD-rom, would it still work on my computer??
Thanks for all of your help, everyone. I'm so fed up with Gateway right now.
