Yes the zalman. It should work really well, ill be sure to keep you guys updated.

I stopped undervolting because I was getting very choppy graphics while playing WC3 =O I assume it was cause of that error with the graphics card.
I will revisit undervolting soon, gunna see how much my temps are lowered by the zalman first.

As a side note, do you have RMClock run at windows startup? I did, and that is when I got the error. I never got the error if I just normally booted it after windows started up.

I never have rmclock run at startup, I always click on it after i boot windows. Im very picky with what programs I choose to load at startup, just my a/v and firewall.

For a test run, you might want to try to run it up at start up once to see if you get the same error? just a suggestion, you dont have to if you dont want to

hey guys, im new to the forum. i recently purchased a m-153x from tiger direct at a great deal, about $850. the problem is that gateway's customer service is HORRIBLE to say the least. tryed to talk to them through the phone, waited 45 minutes until i finally hung up cuz no one picked up. their tech support guys are at times rude, and always unhelpful in chat.

ive accidently formatted the d drive while installing a fresh version of vista. now i dont have the network controller driver. i found the other drivers such as the video but gateway doesnt have the wireless network driver available for me to download off the internet. i was wondering if the driver from other similar models will work to resolve this issue? maybe one from 153xl or 152xl straight from the d drive.

nevermind guys, i searched realtek for a driver for my model and they helped me out.

i love this system but business with gateway is a pain. but they definatly have the best bang for the buck.

All of the available choices in SetFSB have been tried without success. A couple have attempted to disassemble their laptops as well(one is now in heaven), but the PLL was never given.

what are you idle temperatures for your cores reading?

I know amid and mine read about the same of ~15C idle.
We all know this is NOT possible and we are all getting inaccurate readings.

    How to fix this?

Also, anyone know what is under that vent that is at the near the top (wear the battery sits)?

College keeps me plenty busy, but yeah i even stopped coming to the site all together. Yes, the 7811-FX is a great value, but there does not need to be a million threads :realmad:! The Gateway thread is unbearable!

about a week ago I purchased a M-153x from TigerDirect, seemed like a good enough deal to me. This is the first laptop I have ever owned and I think there are a few things different from laptops and desktops. I had a few questions about different things to see if my laptop is exhibiting normal behavior. I recieved the laptop and I had already planned to take vista off but i wanted to check it out a little bit. Well 10 minutes later I had my slipstreamed Windows xp Pro disk in the drive reformatting it lol. Now I have the windows xp on it and have installed all the drivers I could get from Gateway and such. Seems to be running good so far but I noticed everytime I reboot and xp comes up in my system tray it always shows a usb "e" drive (mass storage device). It is as if it is recognizing a external hard drive each time i reboot even though nothing is USB connected. I had another question also about the way I am using the laptop. When I go to sleep at night I like to leave some programs running. So what is the best option here. I found out how to make the laptop stay in normal running mode when I close the lid. When I close the lid though a fan on the left side starts running. Is this normal? If I set the power options to go to standbye when I close the lid would that be a better otpion. I was kinda thinking that with the lid closed it shouldn't need to run a fan cause it is running no graphics. thx for any help and also if you have any other tips that can help with a laptop please enlighten me :D.

What is the best place to get a 1680X1050, 1440X900 resolution screen for one of these m-152/3x/xl rigs? What is the going rate for them? 1280x800 is kinda big.

well, im planning to buy the 153x from compusa or tigerdirect, or amazon, whichever fits me best,

But I see that few people have it, I was wondering if any of you guys who have it can do a review with pics for this laptop,
How does it perform, if its quick while casual gaming, battery life and well, as much as you can if possible.

    :)

    thanks!

I am new to the forums and I have never done a formal review of a laptop. I have a m-153x about 1.5 weeks old. Just tell me what you want to know. I installed the windows xp on mine I didn't like vista much.

If I had to classify myself I would say i'm a casual gamer aswell. I just got done player Gears of War on the laptop ran pretty good.

The review on the first page of this thread should pretty much apply to the M-153x more or less; both the M-152XL and M-153x are very similar in specs.

yes it would seem that the 152XL and 153X/XL favor each other considerably.

well, apparently the M153x are soldout, maybe they wont even be anymore

tigerdirect, compusa (which both are the same thing) and amazon are not selling that laptop as of today (well, I've checked their pages and the laptop doesnt appear)

Sorry that they are out of them I bought mine after 2 days of looking at it. They were already sold out of the red one when i bought my silver m-153x. But when i bought the m-153x for $799, the same day I saw dell was selling a $799 package with the studio 17 which came w/ a ati mobility radeon hd36xx gpu which kinda made me want to cancel my gateway order, but i decided to stick with the m-153x.

I'm thinking about the M-153XL as something to ask my parents for for Christmas. I'm a college student and I'll need whatever laptop I do get to last for the next 3 1/2 years to graduation. I really like the M-153XL (it seems to give the most bang for the buck compared to HP and Dell), but I've heard pretty mixed things about Gateway's build quality.

Would anyone with a 152 or 153 (I'm assuming they're pretty similar) care to tell me the truth of the situation? Is this a computer I could use for 3 1/2 to 4 years without serous incident?

Also, where should I go to get a good (but preferably cheap) two or three year extended warranty with accidental damage protection? Is the one from TigerDirect any good or should I look somewhere else? (HP and Dell do have Gateway on this one: they offer such plans, a must when my parents buy a computer, themselves.)

maybe you should spend some more time on Inet and see other options
153XL isnt the best bang for buck, as there is also on newegg.com the Asus M51Ta-X2 which has HD 3650 instead of the HD2600, 4gb 800mhz ram vs 4gb 677mhz on the XL, and at a much lower price.

Gateway's quality is really good, I dont understand this americans, they complaint about anything even if it doesnt exist, and most of them are tales told by a friend of a friend, believe me, there are always mistakes everywhere, at HP and Dell also.

Try looking at different sites, and have 2-3 options since sometimes sites get out of stock, or companies discontinue their products/

Well its been a while since I've stepped into this thread but just wanted to add some thoughts on this laptop after 6 months.

I gave it to my wife about three months ago and have been using my work T60 as it suits my needs better. I still think overall it is a good laptop but it gets really hot under everyday use and it really iratates me. Also it's a bit bigger than I wanted.

I wish there were a way to throttle back the GPU during normal use. I attempted to watch Dark Knight on Friday on my laptop as my brothers where over and playing PS3 on my good TV. I wanted to watch in bed so I had it sitting on my lap and it blue screened on me twice from overheating within three hours of trying to watch Dark Knight. I am sure some of this has to do with it not really being very well ventilated but its still annoying none the less.

Also my left mouse button it caving in so I need to get on the horn to Gateway for a repair.

I guess next time I will just watch on my Thinkpad.

Well I decided to take another run at undervolting the CPU's on this laptop to try and improve heat/battery life. I will post up if I can make any real ground in the next few days.

I also am going to try and underclock the GPU as it seems to be the biggest culpurite of heat.

I also was able to access the CPU, GPU, and NB last night so sometime in the next few weeks I will also try and apply some thermal compound and take pics for those interested.

Dude I really don't understand why your laptop is overheating. I sometimes leave my notebook on for 12 hours downloading, and its cool to the touch. I do have it undervolted and I always have my gpu set to power saver. I watch blurays on it no problem. And I live in a hot and humid climate
If you need any help ask me, good luck!
