For those of you who don't remember, last Thursday I got my 7801u through my father's friend's wife who works at Gateway. I got it for a steal, branded new, at $450... split with my dad so I paid $225. Anyway, I opened it up to discover a disgusting amount of backlight bleed and a sticky right click button. I talked to this guy's wife to see what she thought I should do, and she said to send it back.

Apparently I have a chance at getting either another 7801u or possibly a 7805u. I hope I get the 7805u because I wouldn't mind the smaller native resolution!

On a side note, I have been reading a lot to pass the time and I hear that sometimes rubbing your screen with a microfiber cloth can fix backlight bleed. I also read that running a pixel unstucker for an extended period of time to break in the screen has been reported to fix backlight bleed. Anyone have any more information on this, just in case I recieve another dud?

Yes I would have it exchanged out, I would also go with the 7805u with the 1440 screen. Shoot I have a 7805 with a 1980 screen and exchanged it to get a 1440 screen.

Nice that Gateway treats their employee like that.

I used to work for Compaq (before HP bought them) and the best we got with a current system was 7% off

I get a bigger discount through my school on Dell (10%) and HP (20%).
