I have a Gateway M-6834 laptop with a Core2Duo T5450 1.66 GHz CPU in it (667 MHz bus speed, apparently). I'm having problems with the Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A ATA drive in the system. It doesn't want to burn CD-R discs any more. It burns DVD+R discs just fine. Go figure. I was thinking of perhaps replacing the DVD burner with a 12.7 mm Blu-Ray combo drive but when I ran the Cyberlink BD Advisor utility it said my CPU was not compatible for a Blu-Ray drive and that no hardware decoder was detected. It said my operating system (Vista Home Premium SP1) and graphic card would be OK.

I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the T5450 CPU in the Gateway to something faster, perhaps a T-7600 or something else. Do you know if a T-7600 would work in this laptop? If not is there another Intel CPU that would work? Would upgrading the CPU allow me to use a Blu-Ray combo drive in the laptop?

Thanks a lot in advance for any advice and recommendations.

If you're going to upgrade i suggest you get the t9300. Its about the best all around CPU for the santa rosa platform.

It will give you about 800ish mHz more CPU power, twice the cache, and run nice and cool once undervolted.

Thank you both for the replies. I guess I'm confused about something, though. The existing T5450 CPU has a bus speed of 667 MHz. The T9300 has a bus speed of 800 MHz. Would it be compatible in my Gateway M-6834? Does the T9300 have the same number of pins and the same pinouts?
