    Hello everyone,

Who would have thought that upgrading the memory in this machine would turn out to be such a difficult thing? I have searched and searched but there is very little information that leads to a successful resolution. I have read some posts from other owners of an MX3210 stating that they have upgraded the RAM to 1GB. The memory upgrade outlets all claim to support this machine. But Gateway is silent on the subject. They do not supply any help with upgrading the memory on this model.

I purchased a 1GB module from Kahlon that matches the correct specifications for this machine. It looks identical in format and fits the memory slot perfectly. But the computer just sits there and does nothing. When I take out the 1GB module and re-install the factory installed 256MB module all is good.

Has Gateway purposely disabled this machine? Will I in fact be able to upgrade to 1GB? What will end up being the solution? Some have hinted that a specific brand, like Samsung, may be the key. Can it be that this Gateway will only work with Samsung memory modules? What makes that brand so special?

Does anyone know what motherboard type is used in this machine? Does anyone know of a cross-reference of possible different motherboard formats for this model? I did notice that this model comes up as either a DDR or DDR2 type for memory modules. Mine uses DDR2.

    Thanks for your help,
    Seaken

I have not found the specific answer to your problem but here is a link http://www.memory-up.com/memory_fin...1GB&system=1&utm_source=NexTag&utm_medium=cpc It states you need a certain chipset configuration and even if it looks the same does not mean it will work. Here is a link to your original memory http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/MagicE/105612/105612sp2.shtml at the bottom mentions configuration. This all could explain, or you have a bad chip. Good luck. I read it will support 2GB RAM
And like you said can't find Gateway Info.
