Recently i upgraded my laptops processor to the intel core2 extreme x9100. But i believe im not getting the processor max performance i still cant play BF3 or Arma 2 with out the processor maxing out and i know the X9100 should be able to handle those game on low settings at least but for some reason it wont. i upgraded the bios and reinstalled windows 7 and even tried looking up drivers from intel but there isn't any. i really would like to see my X9100 performing at its best but im all out of idea on what to do so if anyone can share some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

You also need Throttle Stop. With that be sure too undervolt the CPU so that it stays cool. If not at stock voltages, especially the C0 stepping of the x9100, will downclock to keep itself cool.................

Right, it will not alow high temps and the system will downclock it very early to keep temps that low. Run TS and report back if there still is an issue............

ok, now be sure it is enabled, this will stop the cpu from throttling. If you find your games are too CPU intensive you can overclock................

performance boost in? The thing is most games, if that is what we are talking here, are not limited by the CPU but by the GPU. This especially becomes true of newer games that require alot of GPU power.

Where you may notice a difference is where alot of AI action is going one where a CPU limitation will cause lag and possibly poor frame rates. Now if you compress video or other cpu intensive tasks you will see the benefits more.

Th primary difference is not where the FPS were high before but there may be added FPS where it was low before. With some graphics benchmarks, I have seen sections that were at 22 or so FPS go to 30 FPS. This can take a barely playable section and actually make it playable.

In the end 99.9% of the time you do not need the added power afforded by the x9100. The idea is to have it for the 0.1% of the time you do.........

Edit; to be sure you are getting all the CPU has to offer also be sure to run bios version 9c.17.00 or better...........

when i play a game like BF3 i don't have low fps necessarily the game is constantly freezes and if i pull up task manager the x9100 is hitting 100% a lot. also i have a 9800m gts i wouldn't think its my GPU. i also overclocked that as well and it didn't help.

itlieswithin what are your 3dmark 06 scores? I just want to compare with mine because your system might be OK and it might just be you too demanding.... but its just a version....

Stuttering usually has to do with video memory limitations. The higher the resolution the more memory bandwidth required. While the screen is 1440x900 you may want to lower the total resolution of the games that have issues. Some other things to try first.

1.) be sure bios version is 9c.17.00 or better. This ensures you get the most from your 6MB L2. I'd suggest not using 9c.20.00, .23 or .25 as they tend to overheat the GPU.

2.) worry more about a decent overclock on the GPU. For games this is way more important than the CPU speed.

3.) Remember to keep your Core:Shader ratio at 1:2.5. This helps keep things stable. IE: (core/shader/memory) 600/1500/950, now your milage may vary but keep that ratio intact and then get what you can from the memory.

thank you alot that helped now its playable on low settings. my cpu is still hitting 100% alot i thought i could handle better but i guess i was wrong. thank you again.

Edit: i just have one more question to ask what software or method do you recommend for overclocking my gpu?
