I upgraded the processor and everything seemed fine but now the system keeps rebooting after awhile, seems to be when its starts to work hard, the system shuts down. I have no idea whats going on. I put the silver thermal compound.

Is it possible that the processor requires too much power when running hard? Could you monitor temps AND power using Notebook Hardware Control?

Download hwmonitor from www.cpuid.com and see what temps your cpu is getting. It sounds like its overheating.

Thanks for getting back to me, I used the T9300 which is using less power then the 1.67 I was using. I know a lot of people are doing this upgrade
I have not heard of anyone having issues

Post your temps. It does indeed sound like a heat problem.

Ok I went back in and re-added more compound, this time i put some on the heat sink, I just put compound on the cpu last time. I downloaded the cpuid program and I re-ran my index base score which the laptop had previously shut down while doing, 73c is the warmest that it got, been running it for about an 40mins, no shut down. Seems good now?

I didn't put any thermal compound on the heatsink (just cleaned off the old gunk that was there), only onto the little glass rectangle part of the cpu. My temps range from 40 to mid-50's after heavy gaming. 73 C is insane! I think you should start over with the compound... do you have that arctic silver thermal compound remover liquid?

I'm having the same problem. monitored my temp with HWMonitor, and the idling temps were 50+ deg C, and went up to 100deg C when it was stressed, before system automatically shut itself down.

I popped back the old T5450 and the temps were 40+/80+ deg C when idling/stressed respectively.

Not sure if it's the CPU problem. Anyone else with the same issues?

Note: I didn't have any thermal compound on both CPU's during the tests as I'm still waiting for my AS5 to come in. Will update again soon.

Er... don't install and turn on the computer without thermal compound on the cpu!

Don't forget.. If you're desperate for AS5, Radio Shack sells it (in their own packaging and part number, but the tube still says "Arctic Silver 5") for $10US. High, but when you need it in a hurry... (and if RS is local for you)...

The Dynex stuff from Best Buy works surprisingly well, also. I HIGHLY recommend not running your machine with no thermal compound.

Same here. The CPU works perfectly after applying AS5.
