I've tried several different programs but I can never get my ps3 controller to work with my laptop..

I would be perfectly happy using it via USB. Has anyone successfully accomplished this?

i've tried the motionjoy fix several times without success. I'm almost to the point where i'm just going to buy a xbox360 controller, eventhough i prefer the ps3 ones.

I use the wireless Xbox360 controller with it, without problem.

yeah, i've considered buying one.. But i hate to do that since I have 2 ps3 controllers. I plug the ps3 controller in to my laptop and it sees it as a ps3 controller and says it installs the driver, but when i try to test the buttons nothing happens at all.

the motion in joy drivers work perfectly fine for me in wired and bluetooth mode. I bet the issue your having is that your not disabling the driver signature enforcement by hitting f8 before os loads. since this driver is not digitally signed and probably never will be you have to disable the signature enforcement or it will never work.

if you are disabling it then you might have to try out different drivers. the only other ones i can think of but are really rather old are drivers made by some japanese coder. i still have these drivers in a folder somewhere so if you need them i can upload em to megaupload or something for you. although i would recommend you get the motioninjoy drivers to work as they are much better.

fyi you can also emulate xinput on the ps3 controller making it compatible with most of those games for windows xbox 360 controller enabled games

i had tried that whole method of hitting f8, but it seemed to mess something up. It's been months since i've tried all that and i can't remember what i was having problems with..

I think the best route is just going to be buying a wired xbox360 controller. Hopefully this will solve all my issues.

I really don't do a whole lot of gaming on the laptop, but there are games that I can't play on the ps3 and would like to give a shot on my laptop.

I just don't understand why it's so freaking hard to get the ps3 controller to work after it's been out this long.

Thanks for all the help guys...

if you really need a controller then i would suggest just waiting until the xbox 360 controller made by razer is released because they are supposed to have fixed the 360 controllers biggest flaw the d-pad. in my opinion though you should keep trying with the ps3 controller as its a much better pc controller then the 360 pad but also you already own the ps3 controller no need to spend cash on something you dont need. i dunno if you have original xbox controllers but you can change the end to a pc compatible usb and use it on the pc also.
