    Hey there.

I have a MX6455 and I'm quite happy with it. I had read at a memory site (which shall remain nameless) that I could install 4GB of RAM. So I saved my pennies and bought two 2 GB sticks and installed them. For a while, this thing flew. Now it's slowed down to normal. I got on Gateway's live chat, and found that (alas) the specs say that 2GB is the max for this laptop.

I still have the 4GB in the laptop - can I use any of the extra RAM?

    Thanks!

Nope. You have a hardware limitation here.

Out of curiosity, are you using DDR or DDR2 RAM?

If you're using the ATI 1150 chipset and DDR2 RAM, you an use more than 2 GB

If you're using the ATI Xpress 200 chipset and DDR RAM, you're stuck at 2 GB.

According to Gateway's specs, the MX6455 has the ATI Xpress 200 chipset, but apparently, the Xpress 200 chipsets were later made into ATI 1150 chipsets as well?

I might be wrong, it's rather confusing.

    Well bugger...

I am using DDR2 RAM, but it is an ATI Raedon Express 200M.

    Anyone want some memory?

    Thanks, all.

How much RAM does your system recognize?
