I recently purchased my unit from BB (2-27-08). Shortly after I started using it (even before my upgrades), I started experiencing periods of intermittent "static" on the screen. I would describe it more as colored pixelating that appears on the screen. Typically in Green, Pink, or Red. If I move the computer around a little, it goes away for awhile but will come back. It doesn't matter if the computer is cool, warm, or hot.

I've attached my information with the upgrades for something that maybe stands out. Again, this was happening even before my upgrades and before I reinstalled a clean version of Vista Home Premium.

    Few notes:

Happens even in the Bios (F2), before it loads drivers.
Won't show up on the external (2nd) monitor. But will still show up on screen.
CPU heat typically stays in the 22C range during normal use.

It might be a loose cable from you motherboard to your lcd display, or a bad lcd screen.if you have the bb warrenty, have the geek squad fix it, or exchange it.

Take it back to Best Buy before your 2 weeks are up and exchange it. That sounds like the video RAM going bad, or potentially a loose cable (but I doubt it).

If the Best Buy you got it from doesn't have any FX's, get them to find one that does and transfer it to that store or get them to hold you one when more come in. Once you are out of the 2 week exchange period you will have to go through Gateway or Geek Squad (for factory warranty or extended warranty service you can use GS) and send it out for service, which would really suck considering you just got it.

I found the problem last night. Actually, thanks to this forum, I did the unthinkable and took my new machine apart yesterday. All said and done, there was nothing left together when I finished. What I found is the main cable coming from the LCD screen to the motherboard connection was not properly seated. In fact, it was barely seated at all. I ended up giving it a good push and it clicked into place.

It was a risk, but my 14 days to return to BB was a week past due, and I didn't want to hassle with Gateway. Funny how you miss a machine even when it's out of service.

Got it all put back together, no pieces left over, and pushed the power button. Works perfect. Thanks for all of the feedback and help.

Very cool, I had the same problem with another Laptop, my screen would flicker a little, it was a loose cable too.

Play some games now, have fun!
