Cyberlink PowerDVD will play most formats (XViD, DiVX, MPEG2, x264 etc) and it has built in Dolby Virtual Speaker, TrueTheatre Surround and Dolby Headphone. They work really well at creating virtual surround sound although don't come close to the real thing obviously.

Well your best bet is to use headphones and select headphones in the sound options of your games.

Get some in-ear canal-phones like the Etymotic ER-4 or ER-6i - they make anything sound INCREDIBLE.

Yeah I have the hf2's which are the ER-4's designed for the iPhone with a built in mic. I'm the same as you - just can't explain how good everything sounds. Playing games makes you feel like you are literally in the middle of the action. It's like having a direct connection to the brain - awesome.
