Does the Gateway P-6831 come with anti-virus software? If not, what would you recommend?

30-day trial of Norton is what it should come with. Once I have time, I will install Kasperasky. Best in my opinion.

AVG or Avast! is free and very good, they both do not use too much of the system resources.

Lots of choices! Hmm..I will go with Windows Defender, free, and AntiVir with just 3 little processes, also free.

Lots of my friends don't run ANY but make use of a disk image if things go nuts.

In any case, if you search, you'll have seen this question debated ad nauseam.

I actually have 3 laptops and they are all setup on my private network and after using the Norton and trying Mcafee I decided to use Windows Live Care 2.0.I have not had any problems thus far and it has a lot of additional features that I find useful. I have been using this program about a month and a half now and I am very pleased with it.

Use the least resource consuming AV you can get. I'd recommend Eset Nod32 if you can grab your hands on it, otherwise AVG Free Edition which I use myself.

I agree with finalx233, both programs are great, and if your a gamer, the less system resources the better when it comes to a anti-virus, I use avast!, also a free program for home use.

I also suggest Antivir. Here's a link to the free version, it's highly rated, and I've found it to be excellent.
