Hello,
im kinda new to this forum and just have a quick question or 2.
So i purchased the p-6831fx in early april 2008 and love this laptop. Now Im thinking i should upgrade to vista 64 and before doing so, did my research and saw hundreds of forums on this machine.
However checking out my device manager, i noticed that my computer is showing "ACPI x86-based PC". Dont you need to have a x64 architecture to run 64 OS? Or is it just showing x86 because i have vista home premium 32bit preinstalled and will show x64 once vista 64 is installed?
One more thing, wheres the best place to a copy of vista 64? (since the preinstalled OS is OEM version and Microsoft and Gateway wont provide a 64bit copy)
help a noobie out (LOL)
Thanks

a 32 bit os does of course tell you it´s x86. you should tell us about your motherboard and cpu. what is the chipset on the mobo, and what cpu are you having ?

a couple of people here installed 64bit on their 6831 with no problems, so you should be fine

i AM RUNNING 64BIT ON ALL OF MY MACHINES NO PROBLEM.
