Vista SP1 will show 4gb of ram if you have it now. I believe it uses the same amount due to the 32bit barrer.

I recall the same temperatures with stock clocks, possibly even lower since it does go down to 42C and peaks at 47C. I haven't actually gamed with SP1 so far, as school has been pretty busy. That will all change on Friday.

Yes, start-up is a lot longer for me too. A boot defrag may help, which is what I plan to do on my 4 day vacation from school! Will be gaming with SP1 and testing it out, hope nothing goes wrong!

Actually on my system I noticed that it has been more responsive with SP1 installed even when I used the RC1 version. I have actually noticed faster boot times on my system and my programs seem to load faster. So far gaming as been smooth I have not had any issues as far as sluggish performance.I read somewhere that it takes a few boot cycles for the system to become completely adjusted and/or optimized after installing SP1.I will try to run some benchmark tests and maybe post the results this weekend.

Installed yesterday via Windows Update and have had no issues as of yet running this FX 24/7 @ 100% load...Folding@Home project as well as various other things. Temps as monitored by Everest not much different though if anything a 2-3C drop on the X9000 (62-65C). GPU still @ 41C steady @ stock speed...clocking up 600/900 around 47c idle. System seems rock stable. May run some benches just to verify though Super_PI still running 2M @ 39sec. and 1M@15sec @ 2.93+ Ghz.

I might sound like a complete idiot for asking this but how can I tell if I have SP1. XP stated it in the system properties but with vista I don't see anything different. So far, since receiving the laptop yesterday, I've done a clean install (a lot easier than I thought it would be....just make those recovery disks first!!!!) and ran windows update immediately. There were tons of updates going on and after everything was said and done, I saw no difference in my system properties. Is there some other way to verify what I have?

It just says windows vista home premium...the sp1 site said to rely on windows update for the sp1 installation as the other method was a much larger download...doesn't make much sense but that's what it says.

lol wow Hydra that link is positively brutal.

I'm staying with my completely stripped down version of Ultimate 64, No updates. NOTHING. I can't stand forced driver signing, it locks out alot of my Programs for no reason. After a Certain windows update (I forgot which one) MS Forces Driver Signing on All the time while before you could press F8 during the boot up and disable it..

I am playing through COD4 again, since the upgrade to SP1 the game play is not as smooth. This is crazy. Might be time for XP 64.

Have you tried maybe doing a completely clean install of Vista and then installing the SP1 again from scratch? I guess we all have different experiences with Vista and SP1 some good and some bad I suppose.

That article is rough all I can say is Oh My....!! I did not realize how large the amount of people affected with bad Vista experiences were. I am glad that I have not had any problems to date with vista but I really empathize with those who are experiencing difficulties and/or problems with vista and SP1.

"Microsoft has acknowledged that the service pack will not install on computers that use “incompatible” peripheral device drivers from the likes of Realtek and Intel. However, there’s no mention of known problems with Nvidia drivers on Microsoft’s rather long list."

..copied from the Register artical posted above

opps, sorry snowsufer, I missed your link which says same thing..

I just did a fresh install, setup raid 0 with two 7200rpm 200gb, updated sp1. Everything works great, when I turn on my laptop I see the memory check screen, then the raid option screen ect. then it goes into Vista bootup. Is there a way to hide this screens, or to bypass them, I bought this for my wife and I don't think she cares about all the greeky stuff at startup. Thanks

I think there is a "quiet" boot option under the BIOS screen to hide it. You have to select F2 or was it F12? me forgets..during boot.

The quit boot option is greyed out, but says enabled? Oh well it could be worse, I could be having a bunch of problems. If anyone knows how to hide the start up information on bootup let me know, maybe teakui may have a option?

Just so you know, SP1 32x may show that your computer has 4g of ram, it's not using it. It's still limited to the 3gigs.
