Alright, I just got my 6860 yesterday, and I truly to love everything about it...well...almost everything. Now the first thing I did was to create a recovery CD and re-install the OS in it. I re-installed 64-bit and everything went fine and dandy, that is until automatic updates started.

Every single automatic update installed fine until it came to this one last one. It says it's:

Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB947562)

    Download size: 3.9 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

    Update type: Recommended

Install this update to resolve a set of known application compatibility issues with Windows Vista. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Well when I go to install it, I gets part way through and fails and give me this error code: code 8024200d

Now I did some googling and found quite a few people having the same problem with x64 Vista Home, but none seem to have a solution. Does anyone here have any clue as to what this could be?

    Thanks.

Download and install it from here and it should work fine:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947562

Supposedly it's because a prerequisite is missing but this stand alone package includes any prerequisite that you need.

:eek2: I don't mean to hijack this thread, but i think thats what i'm doing here....

I'm having the same problems as littlegamer360, i am also on a 6860fx. As far as not being able to install windows updates. I'm having other issues also but i think they are coming from the missing updates.

Let me start from the top. My windows media center will not lunch via button or from inside windows. I started trouble shooting with checking my updates. I can not install these updates with windows updater or with the updates downloaded to the computer.

Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista for x64-based systems (KB950126)
Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB950124)
Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB950125)

I spent about 6 hours with some fools on the microsoft tech support live chat, but nothing came of that. I talked to some guys at bestbuy and the only thing that they could come up with was for me to update my bios.

I have not reinstalled windows, and my buttons did work before. Most of the threads that i came across that talked about the buttons not working had to do with reinstall issues.

I think my next step of action is to update my bios. I'm not real sure how to do this. I've seen that people have been told to update their bios before updating their cpu but i haven't seen any thing on how to go about doing this.

Any and all help is greatly greatly appreciated!

Oh yeah, If it wasn't for this forum and all these threads about the 6860fx i wouldn't have known how good it was and bought it. Thanks for all the good talk about this great buy!

for future reference, when such a problem appear (lost some feature) use system restore go back before you lost it.
then check what caused it, as it easier keeping it working then trying to fix it without knowing what broke it.

Wha no bios updates!?! hmmm I saw a motherboard chipset download on gateways website. Is that a bios update?

As far as the system restore goes. Will that change any files that i've added after the restore point, or any programs i've added?

I'd hate to have to rehunt down some 64bit programs i've found.

    Thanks fore replies

    no bios updates.

system restore does not delete any of your stuff, it reverts system configuration only. feel safe to try.
