    Maybe a dumb question but would the Vista CD that came with our laptops work on my desktop if I was to reformat it? I am only asking because it seems like it is just a clean copy not loaded down with junk.

    Since it is an OEM CD, it might not work at all. But if it does work, it will ask you to provide the Vista key for the desktop that you purchased separately.

    You cannot use the laptop OEM license on the desktop.

    If you have another computer with a Vista key for the same version (e.g. OEM Home Premium) It will work fine. I used my disc that came with my P-6831FX to Restore by brother's Acer 5000 series laptop so it would have no bloatware.
