When i click the link in the vista upgrade page from gateway, which links to a company called moduslink, https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/Gateway , the site seems to be dead.

is anyone else having any luck with this?

Anybody heard anything new on this front? On the moduslink website, my order status is "POP/COA validated" and Carrier is "Standard". I received an e-mail a month ago saying that my proof of purchase was received, and that I would get an e-mail when the validation process is complete, but I received no such e-mail...

For what it's worth... I placed my order tonight or I should say this morning and it went through just fine. Even got the confirmation email right away. So we will see what happens. I have no intention to actually do the upgrade, at least not until the first service pack is out. By the way thanks for the link. I had no idea how you actually were to get the upgrade. You saved me a call to Gateway.

Well after waiting more than a month with no change, I sent an e-mail asking what was up. By "coincidence", two days later an e-mail came indicating my order was accepted. Apparently, the disc will be shipped out in 4-6 weeks.

Just a quick Vista update, I did not read the entire email that close. You have to be sure to fax back a copy of your receipt and the confirmation number they send you. Seems like a lot of BS to me. We will see what happens. The web site now says my COA is validated. When I talked to them on the phone, they said the update wouldn’t ship until 3/23/07.

Thanks for the update. I actually ended up e-mailing them a scan of my receipt, so that's also acceptable for those who don't have easy access to fax. So no shipping until March 23... do we have any idea what we will be getting here? Is it going to be a customized upgrade disc, or is it going to be a retail copy of the Vista upgrade?

Good question, I assumed we would be getting a retail copy of the home premium upgrade version. However, you know what they say about assuming! For those that do not know, you can do a clean install with an upgrade version. You just have to install it twice. Of course, if it is some customized upgrade BS then I guess that plan is out the window

Well, I got mine today after receiving an e-mail saying that my order shipped last Wednesday... must have been horse and buggy shipping! I got two discs... a Gateway/Microsoft branded Windows XP disc that has a serial number sticker on the back of the plastic case, and a Gateway Drivers and Applications Upgrade disk for Windows Vista. Also, a 12 page guide. Apparently, it *is* possible to do a clean install from the disc, but I'm not quite ready to do the install at this moment I'll have to wait before I can confirm.

Still waiting on mine. I'm curious what the XP disk is for? Also you allude to the fact that you can do a clean install with the upgrade disk? Keep me posted as to how you make out, since I have no idea where mine is or if and when it is coming. My plan, if it's possible to do this, is to do a clean install on a new drive.

Glad to hear it. In my last post, I obviously meant that it was a Vista disc and not an XP disc, but my brain misfired. I've got most things in readiness and will probably do a clean install later tonight or tomorrow. I guess the only other thing to find out is if this indeed is an OEM disc or when you do the "clean" install is there a bunch of manufacturer crap on there. I have been running Vista RC2 on a separate partition for some time on my Gateway, and except for I think the card reader everything was recognized with little or no problem. So I wonder why the need for the driver disc?

My guess would be to give you the latest versions of actual drivers written for Vista. I'm sure you can bet on a load of crap being added to the install. I believe they even mention something about it including the programs that are factory installed. Or in other words crap ware for you to uninstall. Anyway let me know how things go for you. Also what model laptop are you installing this on? I don't recall if you mentioned this earlier in this thread? Mine is a MX6960.
