Well even though you may not like it, getting wireless to work well in Linux and OSX is no easy matter either. To get any wireless to work on linux is a HUGE hassle (IMO) and since in OSX it automatically connects it can cause problems when networks have passwords.
So actually I don't find the wireless on Vista to be bad at all...

Are you just spamming the forum with your frustration, or are you actually posting to solve a problem?

If Vista can make you this angry, you should probably see a psychiatrist; a really good one.

I don't understand. You've already said you got your wireless to work. Why a reinstall?

Please use an appropriate language when you post and describe your problem as clearly as possible. That way, discussions will be more useful for everybody.

    Thank you.

Lakjin, why reinstall again? I thought you already did that. Seems like that's causing most of your problems.

im not reinstalling, just said that in frustration; its too much of a pain to reinstall.

    sorry for my language...

ya i got wireless working, but wired still isnt and its driving me crazy. whenever i plug in my ethernet port thats connected to the router i always either "unidentified network" with either "local network" or "limited connectivity" =/

did you check the properties on the lan adapter?
the ip4 settings. make sure you don't have some bogus dsn number or ip address listed in there.

Otherwise, sometimes with vista you need to have your ethernet cord plugged in before you start up your computer...

never heard of this one before. and i have 4 computers running vista. and some of my clients are running it as well in a business environment.

do you get the same error as lakjin? and you restart your computer with it plugged in?

im curious that's why... just in case i ever do run into this problem

edit: lakjin: also try restarting your router & modem. modem first, then router.

    okay this is really odd.
    this is what i did

LAST NIGHT i typed in "route delete 0.0.0.0" in cmd run as administrator. Then i rebooted my computer and tried the wired connection, and it still didnt work. So i was like forget it.

This morning I turn on my wireless, its working fine. I decided, you know lets see what happens if i have my wired and wireless on at the same time. I do that and it shows the wired and wireless are both connected to the same network with internet working. So then i turn off my wireless and just leave the wired on, its working fine. Then i unplugged my wired, then plugged it back in, it connected fine and is working...

I dont know what happened but right now im on wired connection posting this.

    God vista is a pain.

Ok. Yeah just in case you run into this problem. I have had this problem since before SP1... if you plug in an ethernet cord (in my case into a laptop) sometimes it doesn't recognize the cord properly. If you give your comp a restart it is fixed. So if you know you are going to use an ethernet cord I just suggest that you plug it in BEFORE you turn on your computer...

and you have tried a different ethernet cord as well?
also, did your check your pin's inside the network port? sometimes they get bent or not a good contact....

My pins are definitely ok, but I have only used one cord. For me it's really not a big deal because I use wireless 98% of the time, so yeah. And actually this problem doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. heh

    cool.

that would be a pain for me, since i tend to move allot of large files and wireless just wont cut it for that....

I had a problem similar to this where I could connect to the internet fine wireless but wired and using my mobile broadband card it wouldn't work. I would connect but it would say local only after spending 30 secs trying to identify the network. I found this suggestion and now everything works fine. Not sure how any of the settings were changed but its all good now :)

check your modem, plug in another computer to make sure its working first
I was afraid of upgrading to Vista at first but its not too bad
