I feel like a dolt posting this but I've been looking online for over an hour and can't find a solution. I've had this Gateway lappy for about 2 weeks. A few days ago I must have pushed some weird key combo by mistake because the volume is really low now. I have the master volume all the way up, but unless I have earbuds jacked in I can hardly hear anything. I've been in the control panel and turned everything up in there. I tried using Fn/page up and down, the other arrow keys, Fn/f9 and f10...nothing works. Does anybody know how I can get the speaker volume back up? After trying the above listed, people keep saying to buy ext speakers which makes me want to rip their faces off, hahaha. Many thanks.

First off, what laptop is it? I also recommend getting small speakers + a sub woofer if you are into music or if your speakers are as bad as mine. (Actually, is it the speakers or poor design that causes that vibration when people talk?)

Your problem sounds like a hardware problem to me because as far as I know there is only 1 master volume control.

It's this. Until a few days ago I could watch movies and stuff and hear them with no problem, but now...ugh. Very low sound.

If your in windows 7, try right clicking the sound tray icon and choosing "Playback devices". Then from there right click the audio device that is outputting your sound, if anything just do this for all of the devices (that is, if you have more than one),choose properties, and go to the levels tab. From here try adjusting the volume to see if anything changes. This may or may not work : ).

Oddly, I didn't even change anything (there was nothing to change, everything was turned up) today the sound is back to normal. Thanks though, for your suggestions. I appreciate it!

windows 7 has some issues with sound, i have creative and i have an option to connect speakers via optical cable up to 7.1 but i cant do more than 2.1 on vista it was OK, so dont worry its your OS and hope SP1 will fix it.
