I own a P7811-FX. I can't figure out why the slider stopped working. Did it just die? Did I disable it? The rest of the multimedia control panel works fine except for the volume slider.

hmm thats wierd, please we need more info than that. What where you doing at the time you noticed it not working?
Did you do a fresh install of the os?
stuff like that:
was it giving you some probs before it happend ? -

I've done a fresh install of the OS a month ago and had no problems up until I tried to adjust the volume a few days ago and found it not repsonding. Prior to that, it worked fine.
I was just playing WoW and went to turn down the volume. Bam. No response.
It's not even lighting up which leads me to believe it crapped out on me. -

Try updating the bios...Then report back to us. That should fix the problem if not them im sure gateway wouldnt charge to much to send you a replacement part.

Nah i dont think its the bios, go to device manager, and do a "scan for hardware changes" sometimes that makes the os re install drivers (dont ask me, thats a common glitch i notice on windows machines.
If that dosent work, do a system restore. to a fewdays before the slider stoped working.
report back please. -

are you talking about the little - + buttons at the top of the 7811, or are you talking about sound slider that you see next to the time in the toolbar I guess its called?
 -

he's talking about the orange slider for sound near the lcd.

Oh ok, im not trying to hijack the thread but do you have to download some sort of drivers to get it to work while playing games?
