Has anyone had problems with WD HDD.
Mine has like 1000 bad sectors in ~1500megs.
I can isolate them but but i would like to fix them. they are just logical bad sectors and when i what to recover them with HDD Regenerator i have an error " HDD is not ready".
This happened when i copied 12 gig of of data with about 25000 files. temp was 45 during the copy.
does any one had problems with WD.
From data guard i get this error
Test Error Code: 06-Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete! Status code = 04 (Unknown failed test element), Failure Checkpoint = 96 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 1!
from wrote zero i got seek not completed error code 0108
have WD HDD for almost 10 years and they still work just perfect.

What was the results of using WDs support?
-
it was the same in DOS and windows.
i guess something messed up my drive cause the drive from hdd where i copied the data it was messed up(had to do a back up, move the somewhere else). haven't tested it yet but i will. it is working fine except for those sectors. might bee also a seek error that is causing these anomalies.
WD lately are not so reliable as they ware, i have a WD IDE 80Gigs, opened it up once in my homemade clear room and its still working just fine for almost 8-9 years now and the top cover is bended. i will post a picture next days
and here i found a test result

Anyone knows what to say except for buying a new one
-
Sorry, the website says to replace unless someone has a work around.
If you could somehow cool it more than what you have might make it last longer. That error may make it over heat faster.
Look into warranty issue and backing up your data. -
You don't want to continue using a drive with that many bad sectors. The drive has entered a failure mode and will not get better - only worse.
Copy off what you can if you haven't backed up and RMA the drive. If it is not under warranty any longer... time to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Sorry. -
The best what you can do is to get the new HDD as Hep mentioned.
Also you might try to low level format the drive, this process can wipe out sectors and firm new ones, however sometimes it can't be done on the modern drives because it's hard to locate the tracks on the disks. You can try this with this tool. Back up all your data if possible, because this process will wipe out the whole drive. -
i have backed up all my datas. and i will buy a new hdd. no other option left now.
what i wanted from this drive was to use as an external drive but its getting worse as i was expecting. disappointed with WD cause a same hdd of a friends hdd failed after 2 week of usage.
now i have also a seek error rate at threshold 51 value 1 worst 1.
lucky i didn't bought another hdd for raid 0 as i wanted to do.
still gonna try freezer trick to see if it works and i was thinking of getting a seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GD but i'm not reading good reviews about reliability.
now days you cant trust you HDD. lots of are failing. -
now way i can fix the HDD at home. spoke with WD and they have asked me to replace the HDD if i what to, i will fill the RMA and well se what will happens
-
Why would you expect a failing drive to magically work externally?
Also the freezer trick just buys time to get stuff off the drive when you have failing electronics, won't really do anything here since you have your data already. -
yes i just wanted to try a loose some time before uni starts.
since i saw seek error rate went bad i knew that the drive i almost dead.
