well yes and no. yes if you are within their covered area. much like a cellphone, you need to be within a provider's serviceable area. HSDPA is carried over cellular networks but it doesn't mean that if you have signal you'll get HSDPA. you need to be on a 3G covered area to get it. and even if you are in one, not all 3G networks offer HSDPA. HSDPA is enhanced 3G or sometimes called 3.5G.

I've been using my cellphone as a modem to connect to the internet using both mobile phone operators here in our area.

you can google HSDPA for more info.

i'm not just sure though if our laptop is HSDPA ready. you need a SIM card if you use HSDPA and I don't remember seeing anything.. maybe if the card has a built in SIM slot?

up to 384kbps on plain 3G and if the network supports HSDPA it goes up to 1.8mbps and the higher end models can even go up to 7mbps. Here in the Philippines Globe Telecom is offering data services using HSDPA. Average throughput is 1.2mbps max speed of 1.8mbps. I'm using a regular 3G phone as a modem and I get a consistent 370kbps throughput.

we usually are on a prepaid service. we just buy call cards and reload our sim cards. the service costs 5php/15mins for Globe Telecom and 10php/30mins for Smart Phils. Globe has an unlimited Visibility plan for php1,999.

current peso to dollar rate is around 41.5 pesos to a US dollar

@prodigy: you can use intel's robson turbo memory. but I've read reviews that it does not significantly increase performance and sometimes even decrease the performance for systems with larger memory 2GB up.

it would be a one way tuner...no inputs and u would probaly have to use one of your wifi antennas to get a decent signal. (speculation)

TV tuner cards usually come with a small antenna of their own, you could probably just run it into the same hole that the WiFi antennae go into.
