Hello everyone, for about a month now i have been excessively researching different types of laptops that i can purchase for my next 4 years of college. Since the 6th grade I have been active in manually assembling desktops and eventually i even saved up enough to buy an up to date gaming rig (2 years ago). Now, I do not play PC games often enough or graphically intense enough to warrant me buying a laptop worth 1000+. Eventually in my research I came across the NV79C47u.
    Newegg.com - Gateway NV79C47u NoteBook Intel Core i5 450M(2.40GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
This laptop possesses the perfect specs and price for me except for one crucial component, the terribly large 17 in screen. So I decided to search the gateway website only to find this beauty, the much more comfortable 15.6 in NV5924u.
Gateway Official Site: Shop - Notebooks – NV5924u Laptop Product Details
However after a long web search, I cannot seem to find a place to purchase the NV5924u. I found records of it being sold at J&R, but it is currently not for sale their anymore. Does anyone know if the NV5924u was discontinued, or is it just lost in production?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hope I can get my hands on one of these laptops by next Tuesday for the release of Starcraft 2.

LOL I am in the EXACT same boat you are!!

if only i could find a graphics card that good or better with the more than 3 hours! i also prefer less than 17", but will not refuse if the right notebook exists.

i am also looking at lenovo y560, hp dv6 series, Gateway P-7815u, and Gateway NV79C47u and Gateway NV73A09u

I did manage to snag one, im pretty excited, it should only take a day or two to ship as well, kinda bummed out about the fact that I could only get a limited warranty on it. Anyways, I will probably write a review on it when I recieve it, i might tag along a unboxing video as well.

OK well i should be able to receive my laptop at 4:15 EST, since i live so close to NY i practically got free overnight shipping :).

Im going to try to get my hands on a digital camera so i can make a un-boxing video to show anyone who is interested in this laptop that it actually exists. And on terms a previously said review, I should finish just after starcraft 2 comes out, just to let everyone know how well it runs the game. I may also make a video to tag along with the reveiw as well.

Hi guys,I purchased an NV5924u from J&R a couple of months ago,and I can safly say that it is a decent lappy for gaming(in medium detail).Don't mind all that directx 11 talk, the ati5650 is just an updated ati4670 or somthing similar. All recent games I tried so far play smoothly with directx 10 settings at medium detail, directx 11 chuggs at medium detail but ok at low resolution. Also the highest resolution I can go up to in any game is 1366x720. Star Craft 2 should play well at 1366x720 on medium detail.
There are 3 issues that I don't like about this lappy.
The touchpad related buttons are too small and only presses at the very end,the battery only lasts about 1.5-2hrs and when playing games it really, really,I mean REALLY gets hot,so I am scared playing anything for too long or without a cooling pad.
I cannot understand why the lappy is so unknown. It had the best hardware at the best price at that time($800us).
Oh yea,J&R had quite a few in stock at the time I bought mine(15-20 or so),which was in March and now that I think about it,J&R was the only store I could find online and offline that listed this model as "in stock" so I am assuming these were scarce from the start.Acer has one that is identical to this one so that is an alternative, and they are both the same company anyhow!

Why would anyone buy a laptop without a high speed interface?

JR.com had the LCD spec listed as 1600x900, for those that purchased was that a misprint???

I bought the Gateway NV5924u laptop from J&R about 2 months ago right before they stopped selling it, lucky me. I got it for $799, and I must say that it was the best 800 bucks I have ever spent. It is has a 15 inch screen with a max resolution of 1366x768 (Don't listen to any websites that tell you it has a 1600x900 res). Weighing only 5 pounds, I can carry it with me to school without breaking my back. The battery life is decent at around 2 hours for web browsing (The retailers say 4+ hours, but everyone knows you always have to divide that by half). As for you gamers out there, this machine has superb gaming performance. So far I have played Left 4 Dead 2 on high settings with 45-55 frames per second, and Starcraft 2 on high settings with 40-50 fps. On ultra settings, Starcraft 2 eats up my fps to 30.
The only problem I had is when the laptop came, the disc drive was broken.
I had to send it to the Gateway repair center in Texas, and after 3 weeks they replaced the drive and sent it back to me (FedEx ground shipping took forever).

Here is a video review of the NV5925u. The only difference between it and the 5924u is the color.
