    Good morning guys,

I've come here with help on a certain issue I am having. Recently I developed a dead pixel on my P6831FX's screen and decided now would be the perfect time to reconsider the idea of replacing the screen with a "better" screen.

From what I have heard most if not all laptop screens are TN Panels (is this true, I would prefer a PVA / IPS if I could get one)...

I would like to get a screen with 1440x900 or 1680x1050, my graphics card only has the 512MB of RAM and I feel that a 1920x1200 screen would be too taxing on my card while gaming. I have a 1920x1080 Sharp Aquos TV as my main PC monitor and I had recently upgraded my 8800GTS 512MB graphics card in my Desktop to receive much better gaming performance in new games, so I sort of already know what I will get with a 1920x1200 screen on this laptop.

So I am looking for something that works, quality over quantity for resolution, if the 1920x1200 are the best quality monitors (not TN maybe?) I may reconsider that option...

And where would I go about purchasing these monitors, which place offers the best Dead Pixel replacement gauruntee?

I've come here because I know that you guys know your stuff, my expertise is more in the Desktop realm.

Thanks in advance for your time. :)

Hmmm... No one has experimented with a new screen for this P6831FX or like wise newer models?

Information sounds good, it seems to be a choice between the 1680x1050 model the LP171WE2 or the 1920x1200 model the lg lp171wu1 tl a2.

One thread I read stated that the quality difference between the two is noticeable and the 1920x1200 lg lp171wu1 tl a2 is a much better screen...

Can anyone verify this for me or state otherwise? I would rather have the 1680x1050 screen since it won't be nearly as taxing on my 8800M GTS 512 than the 1920x1200 screen (since I do a lot of gaming) but if the quality difference is enough to be noticeable I will definitely deal with the higher resolution and just turn some of the gaming graphics down in the games where it is needed....

    Any input guys?

Has anyone at least run into gaming limitation on the 1920x1200 screen and this laptop?

I have a T9300 CPU in my laptop so I'm not as much CPU bottlenecked as I was at stock...

    And if so what games?

I have hooked my system up to an LCD with the HDMI out at 1920x1200 and it really wasn't that much slower on fallout 3 or ut3, but I do have an x9000 cpu in my system so I am not sure how your system will fair.

1920x1200 is just a bit too high for this card I think, thats why 1440x900 is a really great native res for this card.

1680x1050 will not be too bad, i still think 1440x900 is the res for the future though.

I tend to agree. That's one reason I installed the WSXGA+ screen. It has extra "real-estate" on the "desktop" but with large enough text at default settings. Also still works for Blu-Ray on-the-go.

I can always connect a larger TV/monitor via HDMI for the "theater experience" when I'm at home.

How is the quality of the screen, color and viewing angles compared to the stock 1440x900? Will it be a night and day difference between this and the stock monitor?

    Thanks for your input guys!

An old thread (one of many) on this topic...

I'm using a screen from the same Samsung series as the original in the 6860. just higher resolution. No real changes in performance over the stock, just more "real-estate".
