I am now well into the second month with the P7805-u. I came from a XT5000T upgraded with a TL-64 and 320 Gig SATA II Raid0 and almost every day for 19+ months just worrying if that day were its last. There are a few other former XT owners here who can attest to the exact same feeling.
Also not chasing the system issues on an overly frequent bassis is a blessing in itself. I now actually have more free time too. While there were a couple of small minor issues up front they were easilly resolved and never a deal breaker.
Even my first personal Intel platform is just awesome. I'd recommend Intel only to other non IT Pros, but never put out the cost myself. It seems Intel now offers great performance at reasonable costs. Trust in that I wish AMD well but with all the non issues of a rock solid Intel platform is worth more than words can express.
I got in on the $1050 deal but to be truethfull before purchase was hesitant on the tight 1920x1200 display. Those fears were eleviated on first boot. The AUO1088 took a little tweaking but once done all I could say is WOW. The HD speed is awsome too.
I thought at prepurchase I'd again be playing with Raid0. The stock 320 gig 7200 rmp drive with the Intel controlers almost keeps up with the old XT's platform and 2 160 Raid0 drives. So a 500 Gig 5400 rpm drive just for data sufficed as a second drive.
To future proof I went with a P9600. The extra cache and cpu speed took video encoding from the old XT at 10 FPS and the stock P8400 14 FPS to 17 FPS. The extra cache helps with desktop feel and other tasks so for me it was a great investment as well...............
So to the moral of my story, Those hedging on a P78xx-u just investigate the possible issues with the respective model(s). As an example the older P7811-u's TSZ0 issue with heat or the placement of the FN key on all of these. If you can live with them this is just an awesome machine and you most likely will not be sorry but very happy with your purchase...............
EDIT to the Moral;

I can only recomend the systems as purchased NEW! all systems will have some that have warrenty issues. The specific P7811-u model here is an early incarnation though and has been known to have various heat issues. Just because it is listed as REFURB does not mean the issues were resolved. This can be said of any refurb but it doesn't mean the original system was turned in because of user error and just a reformat cured the systems woe's................

Hi there tan...
I've had my 7801u for about a week now and really like it. No regrets. You mentioned 'tweaking' the/ AOU screen. What kind of tweaking are you refering to -
My 7811 has been a long and arduous series of heat related issues, including the TZS0 problem which I am still dealing with. That said, it might still be worth it for the price. But yeah, that's a good moral. I would advise people to try to stay clear of the 7811 and just go for the 7805 if you know which screen you're getting.

Another satisfied user here
Had mine since December 28th and just wow.
Though, my previous laptop was a....Wait for it..... Don't laugh.... Sony Vaio K-Series! With some 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 processor (Single core) and 60GB harddrive with intergrated graphics and a 1280x800 resolution screen. Ha you may laugh now.
Though one thing I have to say about that thing is it just reached 7yrs old and it still runs to this day. Wonder if the FX will reach that
Anyway, Blown away with this machine, haven't done any upgrades yet, but looking at the P9600 and T9800 processors as choices to upgrade too and possibly add a blu-ray drive and a 500GB 2nd harddrive. Should be a pretty sweet machine after all that -
I am torn on the Blueray. As it is I ahve a PS3 for that and rarely watcha movie on the laptop si I am not sure it is worth it for me............

Oh yeah forgot RAM, my old one has 256 or 512MB I believe, can't remember correctly
Its just crazy how that Vaio was the "must have" of the sony series back than, going for a couple grand and all. And now we're here with these nice systems for a little over 1k. Cheaper than those things were -

I would have to say this is the best $1500 (after taxes and warranty and whatever) I have spent on a computer and I can upgrade the CPU.
What a pleasure
