you can upgrade the cpu, to any socket P 800MHZ FSB processor incuding the X7800 and the X9000. Dook has a X7800 in his P-6860 and it overclocks well to my recollection.
You can upgrade the system to 4gb of Pc6400 memory (2 x 2GB DDR2 sodimm memory)
You can upgrade the harddrive to any SATA 9.5mm thick 5400rpm, 7200rpm or SSD harddrive.

The graphics card, is upgradeable but I believe the only graphics card which works with it is the 8800mGTS from nVidia.

Personally I think the P-6860 is the best notebook Gateway ever made.
Its really user friendly and very easy to upgrade.

It sure is the best **** laptop ever built by gateway :D
Im sure its upgradeable, its called overclocking removal.First you remove the stuff connected to the gpu. Then you get it to 40000 terahertz and BOOM it flys down and on the floor. Completely out. Ready to be upgraded :D

from your specs in signature, i would only upgrade to the T9300/T9500 for the cpu.
For the harddrive, you may want to upgrade to a 320gb 7200rpm drive or a SSD to get more harddrive performance out of your system (I am assuming your 320gb drive is 5400rpm)
Other than that your gpu is the fasest one for your system. You could upgrade the LCD to WUXGA 1920x1200 if you wanted to, but thats up to you.

I got mine off ebay. You just have to shop around for a decent deal

K-tron hit most of the upgrades in his post. But i would stay away from the RAM upgrade. Its a waste of money. I did it and have absolutely nothing to show for it. I basically spend 109 dollars for nothing.

You can also upgrade the DVD player to a Blue Ray drive... but unless you are into that format its not that big of an upgrade for 300ish dollars.

The 320gb 7200RPM drives are really nice, but i'll be swapping mine out for 500gb 7200rom drives as soon as they become available... and next year i'll do it again for the 1tb 7200rpm drives that should be available :D

The biggest upgrades you can do to the machine are - CPU Hard drive, Screen

About the only thing i havent upgraded is the Screen, but i linke gaming on 1440x900... i just wish i had 1920x1200 for work related projects, because its a much nicer resolution for opening multipule applications...and i dont mind playing games at non-native res

t9500 or t9300? your statement and signature dont match so i'm wondering. If its the t9500... i would recommend staying away from it as its largely junk. 100mHz for 100+ dollars in most cases is never a good idea. For the money you would spend on a t9500 you could save another week or two and just shoot for the x9000.

    The only 4 CPU's i recommend for the 6860 are the t8300, t9300, x7800, x9000. The rest are basically non-issues CPU's

nope, you will get the same effect as i did upgrading to 4-4-4-12 timed 667mHz RAM...which is to say jack squat.

Our chipset limits us to 667fsb so the 800mHz RAM will just get down clocked to 667, and you will gain a latency point basically letting you run at 667mHz with 4-4-4-12 timings.

It really is a waste of money. Looking back i wish i would have just saved the 109 dollars and put that towards a new LCD panel.

But as they say hind sight is 20/20

Thanks for the educated response, as always Kamin :)

Did you replace your LCD btw? Which one did you get? If yes, was it worth it?

royk50 is correct, as of yet I haven't replaced my panel.

There are a couple of really nice ones that have been listed on this forum (both 1650x1050 and 1920x1200 varieties) and any of them i'm sure would be great.

I just havent gotten the upgrade bug in a while so i'm waiting for that to hit again to give me an excuse :p

I bought a Samasung 5400 RPM 250 GIG HD, i really don't care about the rpm, because i get a 30 mb/s transfer rate which beats the standard HD which transfers at 8 mb/s
