I'm getting really low frame rates in TF2 using my stock video driver. What driver should I use, and how do I install it?

    Thanks :)

So are most people using the 185.20 drivers?

Where is the best place to get them from?

I'm having to use OpenGL 180.20 because its the newest open source driver that works with the 8800GTS worth a dang.

The last driver i used in windows was DOX 180.70 and i loved it. The newer ones might be alot more impressive though.

    I like xfastest for benchmarking..
For everyday use I used official Nvdia's 179.48 It was the best for gaming.

I tried installing the 179.48 driver, but get this:

It happens every time I try to install it. Any ideas?

I was able to get the 179.48 driver to install by downloading it from laptopvideo2go.com (instead of nvidia's website) and using the modded .inf file.

My 3dMark06 scores for the three different drivers that I have tried:

    167.46: 7237 (stock driver)
    179.48: 6983
    185.20: 7189

Looks like the stock driver wins!

Try DOX's 180.70 and see how you like it. I was able to post a HUGE increase when i switched to that one.

But before that 3dmark actually just hated me. The most powerful 6860 on the planet and i was only getting 5K in 3dmark06... it was weird :p

6891 with the 180.70 driver from here: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21982

    So we have:

    167.46: 7237 (stock driver)
    179.48: 6983
    185.20: 7189
    180.70: 6891
I'll try the 185.68 driver, but it looks like I should have just stuck with the original driver (almost 400 points higher!).

its so funny how you all are going by some numbers of 3dmark06 at what 1280X800. i once got 8k for the 169.50 drivers with a 8600m gt but with my 8800m gts i got 7k at the same resolution, so i guess the 8600m gt is better. just download the drivers that are best suited for the game you play, thats why i keep about 4 drivers on file on my drive.

I dont go by 3dmark06, I go by fps in games and I noticed a jump in fps in games with the newest Dox drivers and my temps run abit cooler.

Well is seems like I'm getting much lower framerates in TF2 using the 180.70 driver, so I guess I'll just start installing the other drivers again and see what happens in the game.
