So I've always had a special place in my heart for Gateway. My brand loyalty runs so deep that I bought a new Gateway as recently as last year instead of going with a Dell or HP.

When I found out Acer bought Gateway, I was concerned. Sure, Acer is the top seller of PC's/laptops in Europe, but Gateway was one of the original great American computer companies. Sign of the times I suppose.

Upon further reading, Acer purchased Gateway to strengthen their presence in American retail outlets. The Gateway brand is so strong here in the States, it was seen as a great move. On top of that, if you go to Gateway.com, the company has gone retail store only, no more direct orders, no more customization! What a shame!

So I figured I'd look for some Gateways when I went to Circuit City over the weekend, but I didn't see one Gateway model. Not a laptop or PC.

    It's sad :(

Thus is your problem, you went to a dying retailer. Circuit City isn't worth the effort, by the way I've always said that even before I started working for Best Buy.

I have owned the impressive M320 laptop back in the day, which was awesome until my brother took it over... then I moved to the MacBook Pro and it just hasn't been the same. My next laptop will be the Gateway tablet. My dad owns one and it's very nice to work with.

True, but my CC is one of the stronger performing stores. It's not on the list of locations that are closing down.

Gateways and Acers are the only laptops I've ever owned, two of each. Now they are all one big happy business unit, err, family.

i've only seen gateway comps in best buy, at least from what i can remember.

i'm pretty mad at gateway because they were supposed to send me a new shipping label to send my laptop in, but just talked to someone today asking about it and they said i have to provide my own. They made the mistake but can't fix it.

No, the question is, are you serious?! No offense intended here, but where did you hear or read that?? Circuit City is filing for bankruptcy and reorganizing. As part of the reorganization they are closing a lot of the unprofitable stores, but will still remain in business. They simply have way too many stores right now anyway. I have 3 within 20 minutes of my house...

By the way, I am NOT an employee of, know any employees of or have anything to do with Circuit City.

I love my gateway computer and hopefully this buyout will not tarnish brand recognition. My previous experience with acer has been less then stellar...

JeremyP hit the nail on the head. Sometimes filing for bankruptcy is the only tactic a company can use to survive. The CC store I live by is in a very popular shopping strip in Queens, NY. The Target next door brought in the most revenue nationwide a few years back.

I'm just very concerned about Gateway, I think Acer's not reorganizing them fast enough. And I've yet to see instances of synergy between the two companies-- Sharing technology & design for example.

Obviously, CC is filing for bankruptcy because they didn't carry Gateway. Duh!
