I assume its the hard drive but you guys are a little more computer savvy than I am, so I appreciate your help and opinions. I understand that you can not see what's going on with my laptop in person but I appreciate all opinions.

I have a Gateway M-6846 (yes, I know its time for a new one, but I want to make this one work in the meantime if possible lol)
I woke it up from sleep one day, and all of the icons and tool bars and everything on the screen was vigorously flashing. So I restarted my laptop and it would only go to a msdos looking black screen the full size of my screen and a blinking white text bar along with a continuous loud beeping noise. I can access the bios screen if I rapidly hit the F# button, but when I get to the bios screen I see the date and time is rapidly increasing and will not stop.

I appreciate yall's help very greatly,
    Thanks, Osteoporosis

I checked the battery, and all the keys, didn't do anything.. Then I proceeded to open the disc tray which was housing my OS disc.. made progress I can now get to the screen where I pick my mode, safe mode regular start up etc. but now it sits on please wait while windows sets up on your computer, what now :(

Update, Ive cleaned my OS disc thoughrouly and it is now working in the disc drive, and Im now installing vista again

When you checked the keys you probably unstuck the one that was sticking. if you go to bios does the time rapidly change still etc? Probably the tab or other button was stuck...................
