Just got the 7811fx, and I haven't deleted anything that came with the computer so far. I read people saying you should get rid of Norton 360, but if I got rid of that what should I replace it with?

So wondering what I should remove, and why (maybe what to use instead)? Also wondering if there are any drivers I need to update that vista isn't telling me about? Thanks in advance!

Nope.. you dont have to get rid of Norton.. Norton these days are pretty good and effective. Its not like before and Norton has come a long way in making it a nice program.. I would recommend keeping it and using it as long as you have the subscription active..

Well, if you still want to remove Norton, then there are lots of good free AV options in the Best free software thread in the windows security forum.. take one of them.. I have read that Avira and Avast have been widely used and quiet popular these days.. Though, again, I would stress and suggest you use Norton and its very good :) I use it...

As for other things, you may want to drop by the Windows OS thread for some nice tips on getting the best out of Vista... Cheers.

Another good free AV software is Avast. I like it because of the boot-time scanning capability

I would replace Norton with Nod32. Its the best anti virus program there is and it has an almost non-exsitant presence on your hardware.

I also like AVG, though most people wont agree with me.

As to tweeking your computer, its just like any other vista computer and you can get a really good guide in this forums Vista Tips and Tweeks article.

As far as drivers, about the only think i would think to update would be your video card driver. You can get them from laptop2go and enjoy a good bit better preformance than with the stock drivers. Iamtheanimal posted a very good guide about how to preform the driver update step by step.

The best AntiVirus is no antivirus.. Just watch where you go and what you download. ;)

I agree with the rest of the ones saying get rid of 360 and get Avira, or NOD if you want a paid AV. Avira and NOD32 run neck and neck performance wise, with Avira having a little better detect rate(and its also free :) ) Oh and welcome to the FX club. :)
