    Unfortunately I wound up with a 1440 X 900 P7805u

I went to best buy and talked to their "Geek Squad" And they insured me that downloading the current updates would fix the problem.

The laptop they have on display is a 1900 and that's what I based my decision on buying this machine on.

So isn't it kind of false advertising if you see what your getting and what you actually get is completely different?

Also, has anyone tried running 3DMark Advantage on this machine?

I tried lastnight, had a error during the test, then when I updated the graphic drives.. it now says "3D Mark won't run on a monitor that does not support 1280 X 1024.

So I'm going to go to best buy tomorrow and see what I can do.. because I want the 1900.

not false advertising if the spec u get is the spec on the paper... it's false advertising if u get the 1920 instead of the 1440

Maybe not exactly "false advertising", but then again, if they have a floor demo unit showing 1920 x 1200 then you can show that what you got is not what they showed you were getting.

Why read the specs on the side of the box when you already saw the specs on the demo unit?

You have a legitimate complaint. They should give you a full refund (without a re-stocking fee) since the problem is theirs, or swap you out for one that has the 1920 screen. If you paid by credit card, you can file a "dispute" with your credit card company if they do not provide a full refund. After all, this is a known issue by BestBuy - many reviewers have mentioned it on BestBuy's website. But this doesn't mean that a buyer that sees the unit on the demo floor should know about it.

    Good luck.

sadly, it's true! gateway dint do bait and switch theoretically, and that the reviews online doesn't count a cent as the information will be deemed "unverifiable" because the paper specs outweighs the words of people on the net, but I think with enough persuasion you may be able to get the demo model for exchange... may be hard to get a full refund though

I'm not even looking for a full refund, I love the laptop to death.

    But I want what I saw, I love the 1900, this 1440 looks like 800 X 600 to me.

Then go back to where you bought it and tell them exactly that - you want one that has the same screen as the demo unit - it's specs are what convinced you to buy.

While I somewhat agree that the reviews on-line aren't something you can use, they only verify that BestBuy knows about this screen issue.

In fact, on the latest information "tag" next to the demo unit I saw at a BestBuy over the past weekend, the screen was listed as "HD". Neither the "WUXGA/WSXGA" label or the numbers - either 1920 or the 1440 ones - are being listed on the tag. This way, the tag goes "either way". However, the demo unit should be 1440 x 900 so, at the least, the customer will think they are getting something better if they get the 1920 x 1200.

Others have been able to complain and get the 1920 screen so you should give it a try, too.

Does anyone know if the "White blotches" Problem exists in the 1440 or only in the 1900?

I was just looking at my box, and it doesn't say anywhere on it 1440 X 900.

It says: 17" Ultrabright WXGA TFT LCD

However on the latop itself it sais 1440 X 900.

I'm going tomorrow to see what I can do.

WXGA is 1400x900 (well technically WXGA+ is I believe, but no company tends to mark it like that).

The best you can do is get a full refund by stating that the display model has a different resolution. Then you can try to line up batch numbers provided on here to hopefully find a 1920x1200 model or ask if you can purchase the display model (they may say no), if you purchase the display model you can get a 10% discount. They will not open boxes and setup laptops for you to try and find out if one or any are 1920x1200 (and rightfully so). Also the specs listed everywhere do not have it as WUXGA (1920x1200) so there is no sure fire way to really find one.

Or you can return it by doing what I stated and then taking that money and buy the P-7801u from newegg for a little more which is the same computer that's guaranteed to have a 1920x1200 display.

Only problem is I used a Best Buy Credit Card to purchase it.
