    I'm just curious.

    Mine are 640/1500/940

Seems about to be the max/safe-zone.

All of the cards will have a little different stable clock. According to what driver you use and what clocks you card can support (due to manufacturing)

Normally my clocks are set to 400/1000/600, but i only actually clock higher than that if i'm going to game or benchmark. Most of my games i run at stock clocks and i benchmarked at like 674/1631/936 (if i remember correctly)

    Why do you underclock? Temps?

    And Side note to you!

After I upgraded to my x7800. I might just get laptop rigs from now on. I have my main machine, but since you told me to get the x7800 a few months ago, I think I might just save an extra 500 and get a "gaming" notebook, i.e., portability and raw power. Can still be used as a desktop replacement. I say gaming, due to them usually being labeled gaming and being normally more powerful.

I mean it's a little less powerful than my desktop, but it's a pretty good replacement. If I had the money, I would get a Sager or Clevo next. :) Be more comparable.

    Anyway.. ya. :p

Clocks in sig, for benchmarking, otherwise 600/900/1625 would be enough for games.

i have overclocked my 8800m gts to 683 core and 985 memory stable. but i usually stick it at 600 core and 900 on memory 24/7. i sometimes overclock it to 650 on core when i play far cry 2 at max settings.

my gateway 6831 is a nice overclocker vs other gpus. got a t8300 for the cpu. i think i might keep it another 1 year or so.

Good grief. My clocks won't sit stable at anything near those. I game at 610/910/1525. Anything higher that that and I get the nkv#$%@$#.dll has stopped responding error and my clocks go down to somewhere around 300 mHz.

I have left my clocks stock 99% of the time just messed with them a couple of times running benchmarks. Having said that one utility I have in the windows sidebar that shows my gpu/cpu temps currently lists my clocks as 540/1350/864 thats most likely an error or but maybe a driver I installed clocked it as such.

    No issues here

I see a lot of you guys are a lot lower core and shader. Should I lower mine? When I played Last Remnant it showed some issues when I had any higher but no issues with the above with CSS full bore etc.

Also I see moderator who under clocks on normal use and changes for gaming is this recommended? Will this decrease temperatures at normal surfing web etc as well as decrease power usage?

    400/1000/600??

I cannot clock up from stock 500-800-1250 at all. I installed the latest Ntune 6.05 and Xfastest 185.20 drivers, and it fails the Nvidia performance test every time I kick it up at all - even just 550 fails out. When I used "find optimal", it found slightly LOWER clocks lol.

Is there any other way to clock up the card? It maxes temp at 74 and runs absolutely perfectly for as long as you want, so I'm thinking it ought to have at least a little headroom.

Are you running XP? I had the exact same problem when I tried to overclock under my XP Pro installation, while OCing worked fine with Vista Home Premium. I never did find a way around it; a search on google revealed many other people experiencing the same problem.

Im not sure why he dose this, it may be that he has powermiser disabled, but no it will not help you in that reguard. The Bios already contain lower clocks that it will step down to when doing things like browsing the web

I do it because i'm too cool for school. :p

I basically downclock because i have no need for the stock clocks when i'm preforming normal operations. Plus i found it an easy way to stop flash videos from stuttering instead of disabling the powermizer (which will rarely activate now)

Plus it seems to shave about 2-3 degrees off my temps on the GPU. It shouldnt really, but it seems to.

Aha, yes I am running XP, because by purchasing a computer with Vista, apparently I entered into an implied contract with Microsoft wherein I suddenly became an employee of their operating system. And not a highly placed, influential one either- it was like living in a Dilbert cartoon with Mordac, Preventer of Information Services, as my boss.

So, ok, now at least I know why. I planned on giving the Win7 RC a try sometime, but I'm busy enjoying the productivity of having a very fast computer working for me. The OS may be less than sophisticated in many respects, but at least applications run and work gets done with no arguments.

good call :) I do the exact same thing, drops my temps about 5-10c in my desktop.

I had mine running at stock clocks, never really bothered with OCing, doesnt really do too much for the risks it incurs.

I agree that overclocking is risky, but only overvolting to overclock. The clockspeed these things are set at is very general and median. So if you find you have a card that can overclock and keep heat down then their is almost no risk compared to no overclock. However as I said, adding more voltage is definitely risky and can cause your equipment to fail quickly. Think of overclocking these gateways as simply fine tuning your car. Just dont go overboard, and always find your edge and take a few steps back

Mine are 570/1425/820. I'm still in the process of finding my max stable core clock, but I can't push my memory past 820 or else my games will crash on me for some odd reason. i guess some cards just overclock better than others.

Strange. We have exact same setup. I game at 640/1600/940

I don't play games very long or very often though. Usually about 30 minutes max per every other day.
