Hi. I have a question. My neighbour powers his laptop only by the adapter when home (he takes out the battery) while I leave in mine wherever I am, even when the adapter is in.
He said what he does preserves the battery while mine reduces its life. I'm wondering if this is true. He has a HP HDX 16" (very sweet looking machine I might add) while I have the Gateway P-7811FX.
He only did it because another guy said that his HP notebook's battery (not sure the model) died faster while being inserted and the adapter in use. In a month or something of that sort.
Any comments? Suggestions? Thanks.

The main thing you have to worry about is to let the battery run down all the way, then charhe it up to 100% every now and then. Once a week should be good enough. That will preserve it.
using the charger all the time isnt good, neither is not fully charging it and using battery all the time. You want an inbetween. So, his plan works pretty good. At home charge it full, when out, let it die. Applies to all rechargable batteries. -
