Like the title says. I'm really debating on whether I should go for the X9100 or wait for quad-core support. Also found a QX9100 for $270 shipped, just wondering if it will work on newer P-78XX FX laptops? But wait, QX9100 doesn't exist:

Waiting for quad support is up to you, but if anything, skip the X9100 and just go for the T9800. It's just 2.93 x 3.06 (only 4.25%), and it'll run cooler while not sapping as much power.

Also, buying expensive parts from someone who gets the name wrong is generally inadvisable.

Once we can get ahold of the 7808 BIOS it's a done deal :) heck, once the v17 BIOS is available should be done. I wish someone with the new version would drop in a quad and find out for sure.

With that heatsink, it is never going to happen. I tried it multiple times. You need to have a modified heatsink.

    Even with the angled heatsink?

Angled heatsink? Do the 7811s have more than 1 type of heatsink?

yeah.. i am waiting as well.. but oh, well.. i might just wait till they release i7 + 280m equipped sager and get that one instead.. i am pretty sure that cheaper version of it would go for around $2500 or so.. no matter how i look at it, 280m equipped gateway with qx9300 won't beat that thing and price difference would be minimal.. i mean if gateway ever release 280m + quad with 1920x1200 screen, it will be like $1500+ and qx9300 will cost like $600+.
i am skipping quad for time being.. :(

I don;t know what an angled heatsink either but unless you do the copped mod and cover the full copper pad that touches the dyes, you won;t be able to use it.

Wrecked, have you tried getting in touch with your contact to see if we can get a copy of v17 or v18 and if there are any plans for future development?

I personally also can't wait for a 7808u dissection to be posted. I'm very curious to see what has been changed (if anything) thermally.

Other than that, I'm assuming the bluetooth adapter is the only new addition.

Funny you ask that, as soon as my response here this morning I sent out an email. I'm not sure if I've received a response but if/when I do you'll know for sure :)

And like yourself, I'm looking forward to the tear down ;)

Ali, there's two diff sinks and one has a copper contact area which edges run parallel to the heatsink edges. Picture a square with a bigger square drawn around it. Thats what I mean. Btw that's the one that gave me the most tzs0 problems. There is a second slightly larger version which the copper surface was angled. Picture a square(the aluminum) with a smaller square(copper) inside that is rotated 45 degrees. Of my 6 or 7 I had 3 with the second heatsink described. It was my fav :)

Hey, E-, I think I know what you mean by an angled heatsink. It's that thing you posted pics of in the copper mod thread right? It does look different, and definitely more hefty. Would it be possible to switch out old heatsink for that one, or did they have to move some stuff around on the mobo for it to fit?

The HS's look interchangeable with the dual cores. I really want to see the quad core HS, now that should be more massive and maybe it will also help with the people with tzs0 issues by providing better cooling...........

Close. It's Mundo. I'll see what they have.

Edit: No, they just have some adapters and batteries. I know where to get a heatsink though. This place sells the heatsink, but the picture is of the older model. I emailed them asking if they had the newer one, and I'm waiting for a response.

Speaking of batteries, isn't there a 12 cell for the 7811? Maybe not. I think I have the 9 cell, and I'm impressed how long it lasts. Almost 5 hours on battery under the right settings.

If i installed quadcore on the p-7811fx, would that also void the warranty? presuming we get over the heatsink issue, what kind of juicy processors do you think would be good to get, and would we have to buy 4 new ones, or just 2 more (same as the existing ones) [/noob q's]

Supposing i had quadcore right now, would most of my games utilize the extra processors, can you assign processors to dedicated tasks, or none/all of the above? [/extreme noob q's without googling first]

Eh, I don't really know. Most games aren't really CPU limited at all. Fallout 3 is, and it barely takes advantage of dual cores. GTA IV is supposed to take advantage of quad cores, but I don't know if that's actually true. I know that I wouldn't put a quad in here.

Nice find on the heatsink. Yeah, that's the smaller of the 2. The other is more bulky, and has the offset copper heatsink. Anyhow, let us know what ya find out.

Yeah, I've emailed 2 places and am waiting for the response. Personally, I'm hoping that that new bios you're getting (tomorrow?) will help with TZS0 and fan control.

well.. i just threw up a guide on how to backup the gateway BIOS. You're welcome to read through it, and volunteer. It's simple, and straight forward.
But, it's also a trial and error deal.

Don't make excuses. it doesn't matter what version you're running. And as I stated in the walkthru, I'd prefer someone that doesn't have the .17 BIOS to give it a try. Cause if for some reason the 4th method doesnt work and flashes the persons BIOS..then he loses .17. I'd like to make sure the backup command functions when someone using a BIOS we have is available..instead of screwing him outta the .17 BIOS 'just for the cause' - it's not that Im not confident, it's just that I'm unsure which command will properly backup a flashable BIOS

Ran into a little problem. I can't see the boot files on my usb. I have view hidden files enabled too. I'll try again.

Edit: Ok, 216 KB are being used, as opposed to 4 when I just reformat, so I'm going to assume the files are there. I'll just move ahead now.

Moving over to the bios thread.

Wow, does Google do a great job of translating Chinese or what?!?!

    One of the better paragraphs:
You can just barely figure out what they mean to say, although it can be challenging at times!

lol, google is working on a translate that uses the original language to build a grammar correct translation, I think this is gonna take forever to get up and running. There are already programs out there, I think the add on for Word 07 does a good job, but they cost money.
