Ok if you own a P-7811 your hard drive has 10gb partitioned somewhere you can not access. I'm wondering if there is a way to use that partition or to remove... also will that cause any problems?

i believe that is used for the recovery drivers. you can do away with it, but my recommendation is that you back up your drivers from the factory first.

Don't get rid of it unless you're really really desperate for space... 10GB is nothing nowadays.. (if it does happen to be a recovery partition)

Diablo is right; that is your recovery partition If something happens you can use it to restore you laptop to the day you got it. If you wnat to remove it and gain the space, you should be able to do so under "computer management". I suggest making recovery cds before deleting it.

you should be able to dump the 10 gig partition based on the fact that the 7811 came with a program to create a back to factory set of dvds ie 2 discs for a full recovery which my 6860 did not . i made a set and a disc for the apps and drivers just for the hell of it.

I made a restore DVD set and tested it and it worked fine but does anyone know how to restore using the data on the pqservice partition? Is there a key combination to hold while booting or something else?

On my M-6862 I used Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 to blow out the recovery partition. Left it unformatted and unpartitioned and merged the free space with the remaining drive C:

Acronis was the only program I could find that worked with 64bit Vista on merging free space.
