So I got myself a Gateway P-6822 off of buy.com a little bit ago. I can't ever leave well enough alone, and now I want to upgrade the CPU. It came with a T5250. At the very least I would like a T7200, but a T7700, T9300 or something close would be better.
What would the fastest CPU be I could put in there? Would there be any problems with heat, FSB, BIOS, or cache? Would it be an issue going from 65nm to 45nm?
Thanks

Fastest CPU, if I am not mistaken, that you can put in there is the X9000.
-
Looking at the specs on that notebook, you sure its worth upgrading the cpu?
-
I bought it for a decent price. A few weeks go by and new software for work needs min 2ghz. Too late to return.
-
If a program is requiring something like a 2 ghz processor, its probably referring to the old Pentium 4 numbering scheme. Core 2 duo's (yours is 1.5 ghz) will be roughly comparable to a Pentium 4 at about double the clockspeed.
-
That might be so, but doesn't really matter. The software is VERY CPU hungry. I have a co-worker w/ a 2ghz duo and it still takes MINUETS to load. I originally was going to wait to upgrade, but work is making it happen now.
-
depends what type of dual core it is. If it s a pentium dual core or a core duo then it will be alot slower then your core *2* duo, there is a big difference.
-
i would go for a t8300, if at all.

This is directly from Gateway support:
Intel® Pentium® Core 2 Duo processor T5250
1.5 GHz | 2 MB L2 cache | 667 MHz FSB -
Think I will go with the T8300. I thank everybody for the reply. Still no one has said yes or no to any issues I had asked about earlier. So I'm assuming that everything will work. (ie. FSB, BIOS, clock speed, cache)
-
no issues the t8300 is a very sound choice
-
Thought I would reply back. Installed the T8300, no issues.

"C'mon baby, I've got to get this project finished!"
"I'm dancing as fast as I can!!"
Sorry, couldn't resist...
