I dont even use Antivirus crap for my FX.... just isnt worth it to me for the performance trade off.... I run Spybot everyonce in a while, killbox, or smitrem fix.... if I ever get a problem.... its been that way for a while now and no real problems....

i been using kaspersky anti-virus for more than 8 years, and i love it. I dont advise norton, because its piece of..... and also only one way to really delete, is... to reformat hdd
I tried nod, drweb and much more, but kaspersky suits my needs the most.
i dont use any firewalls because i have dd-wrt on my router with firewall enabled. Also i had no antivirus for 6 months one time, and i caught no viruses. I guess i am a smart computer user. -
But if you have no problems and haven't had any problems, then you probably don't need to change anything. As long as you realize and are fine with the fact that you're at a greater risk than most people. -
Before you "advise" against Norton, why not try the compltely re-written, highly reviewed 2009 version. It's a great piece of software now--lean and fast, completely different than previous versions. Does an excellent job of detecting and removing both viruses and spyware.
Having used both AVG and Kaspersky--both of which cause a noticeable slow down a system, I prefer Norton 2009. -

Seems like a good place for a headsup...
I just got through dealing with the "Recycler" virus. Google info on this nasty is spotty, I think its fairly new (?). Entered my 7811 through an infected flash drive. Couldn't see it on the flashdrive - apparently some sort of superhidden file.
NOT DETECTED by NOD, AVG, Spysweeper, or Spyblaster.
Apparently parks itself in boot partition and reaks havoc with browsers/hijacking - or at least it did with me. Both IE7 and Firefox. Shows up as innocuous "Recycler" folder in each drive - you might not even notice it. Spotty info on web says reformat/reinstall probably won't eliminate it.
I used WipeDrive military grade erase on hard drive, then reformat/reinstall. Be careful with those flash drives... -
Avira DOES detect it since August, and calls it DR/Zapchast.AI. The following AV's also detect it and this is what they call it:
• Symantec: Backdoor.Trojan
• Mcafee: IRC/Flood.gen.dr
• Kaspersky: not-a-virus:Client-IRC.Win32.mIRC.601
• TrendMicro: Mal_Zap
• F-Secure: Backdoor.Win32.mIRC-based
• Sophos: Mal/Zapchas-C
• Panda: Bck/mIRCBased.BC
• Grisoft: IRC/BackDoor.Flood
• VirusBuster: Backdoor.MIRC-based.X
• Eset: IRC/Cloner.BI trojan
• Bitdefender: Trojan.Mirchack.A -

Maximum PC rated a bunch of anti-virus applications last month. They did not like Avast (system hog, interface), or Kapersky (system hog). They gave high marks to Symantec 2009 and Avira Antivir though.

I use AVG with link scanner disabled.

I would have also liked them to preform the tests on a stock system and see how much of the CPU was utilized per scan as well -

Which of the Norton products are they reviewing?...Norton Antivirus 2009, Norton Internet Security 2009 or Norton 360?

Avast home here. I love it. Have it on all of my machines. I set it up to scan when the screen saver comes on. Pretty convenient.
Which antivirus are you using for your gateway laptop?
