hey, so i was wondering why the 7811 was discontinued? it's a freaking awesome laptop, and it concerns me that they discontinued it. Was there something wrong with it that i was unaware of?

My guess is that Gateway was probably losing alot of $$ producing it lol
There are quite a few on sale on NBR Marketplace if you dont mind used.. -

I thought the 7811 did have a lot of problems though as well?
-
I'm thinking it had to many returns and complaints.

Glad my unit has been rock solid then...

I just bought a P-7811FX at Best Buy for $869.00 out the door as they had them on clearance, I know nothing about this unit but I have used it for about 2 hours and so far it it just fine.
I love the screen as it is rich and vibrant, I am not a gamer so It will be used for my desktop replacement, they said it was discontinued for lack of sales and they are not replacing it ith another FX series as they are focusing on the new MC series instead. -

It has a GREAT gpu, you will enjoy it! -
I was looking into the HP HDX-16T but it was like $1899.00 I really liked the sound that it had to offer, the 7811 is quite lame as far as the sound goes.
It is larger than I hoped for but the price is why I bought it, I am not a huge gamer so it won't be used to it's full potential, but it should be fine for movies, internet and my small home office needs, I like the screen alot. -

This is a purely speculative answer, since as someone said, only Gateway knows the answer.
Gateway just came out with the P-7801u, which is a slightly tweaked 7811 for a much higher price. Give that point, it's probably that Gateway stopped 7811 production because sales of the 7811 were so successful, and like any business with money on the mind, decided that since these sales were so successful, they could increase the price, but not without justifying it with a difference in item to go with the different price. And so, to maximize the profit on this new price increase, the difference that they would make in the new unit should be as little (and therefor as less-costly) as possible.
Intel does it all the time. Every month or so they put out a new "upgraded" chip with "new technology" for $200 more than the previous model when the two models are only very slightly different. -
good call.

I'm so **** pissed. I can't find this anywhere, and if i do it's expensive.
Lucky for that guy who got a clearance for $800, they're sold out all around me. -
Stores that still (supposedly) have the 7811 still in stock:
Davenport FL 6300 Grandview Pkwy, Davenport, FL 33837
Lakeland FL 4215 Us Highway 98 N, Lakeland, FL 33809
Kankakee IL 1584 N State Route 50, Bourbonnais, IL 60914-4483
Midland MI 1200 Joe Mann Blvd, Midland, MI 48642
Rock Hill SC 1775 Chamberside Dr, Rock Hill, SC 29730-7068
Note this is by no means a complete list. It's just what came up under "select" for store pickup when you sort by state. If you live near these places, lucky you. Davenport and Lakeland are near one another outside Orlando down I-4. -
Midland is where I bought my unit 5 days ago.
-
i'm pissed 2!

-
I' m sure they would sell it over the phone<>?
So far I like this unit alot I hooked it up to my T1 line at wor and used my Verizon mobile car and wow does it fly as compared to using my cable moden at home.
No complaints with this thing and no issues at all, works perfect, (crossed fingers) -
When i called i was quoted $1240 from midland.
-
Can't they do STORE ITEM TRANSFERS if you pay for it in full??????
Why is the 7811 gone?!?
