Ok, I got my refurb p7805u in the mail two days ago, and i love it. The problem is that every time I try to play anything graphics intensive it starts to glitch up (I dont actually know what to call it), and in the 2 cases where i was actually able to leave the game before it crashed, it did the same on the desktop.

    Sims 3
    sims.jpg

    After Sims 3

I also tried the Cryostasis demo and the Bioshock demo, the glitchs were even worse, and they would crash(so i couldnt get screen shots). Cryostasis at some point in the first couple minutes, and Bioshock after the airplane when it showed the title screen.

I upgraded to the 186.03 drivers.
It did nothing. Whats going on? Is my graphics card faulty?

Im guessing you have a 1920x1200 screen?

There was a fix for this, unplug the screen from teh motherboard, and plug it back it, should work then

No I have the 1440X900 and it only does it while playing games, then after leaving them, I dont have anything wrong right now.

Well, it was just a guess, because i had the same problem with my other one with the 1920x1200

there is a thread on this problem somewhere, ill go look for it in a min.

    But that was the fix.

Otherwise you COULD send it back to tiger if you were so inclined.

    Its up to oyu

OH, I forgot, it also glitched when i tried to watch a movie through HDMI on my HDTV, that link you gave me says it shouldn't have the problem on an external screen. Sorry not trying to best you or anything, just wanna figure this out.

Ok, I tried playing Portal: The First Slice and I THINK I saw a little bit of that then i clicked on Options and it locked up and had an audio loop. i ctrl+alt+del out and killed it, tried again and when it got the main menu it lowered all the graphics options and then none of the object in the room dissapeared and some of the textures dissapeared, loaded it one last time to get a screenshot and... NOTHING, worked great aside from the very rare box glitch thing or two... i am so lost

Well, the way i am seeing it, its a combination of errors, like my last FX

I had the error that was in the thread, i fixed that, but i still was getting a BSOD every now and a gain from intense gaming.

So, you got it from Tigerdirect/CompUSA right?

yea i got it from tiger.
the pic in that thread looked similar but not the same... Its usually very defined patches of dots or whatever. and when i say crash i mean black screen and completely unresponsive, only thing i could do was power off.

Lol i wish gateway was that simple. I told them my problem and they reinstalled windows when i sent it in. Eventually when i feel my i want a new one im going to call in and complain and ask to speak to a manager or something and get a new one lol.

Wow. That's screwed up. I will make sure to image my laptop in case I need to get it repaired. Dell had me remove and keep my drive so I never had to worry about that. On the other hand it sounds like the same crap that Gateway did to me like 10 years back.

Customer: What did you do to my machine that made you think it was fine?
Gateway: We sat it on the bench for 4 hours and considered it stable
Customer: Run one program (any program) and I guarantee it will crash with a blue screen
    Result: Replaced motherboard, processor, ram.

yea... I didn't deal with Gateway. I talked to TigerDirect and they happily replaced it.

Actually my response was more directed toward Tehkun. I kinda figured you had worked with Tiger Direct as I'm fairly sure that Gateway won't warranty a refurb.

Tehkun? Yea, I've heard enough about Gateways customer service. I didn't even think about calling them.

Their really isnt much you could have done other than return it, since it was a refurb someone could have overclocked the hell out of it or something and damaged it. THe only thing I would try before sending it back is another set of drivers, older ones specifically. Just to be sure. Well I hope you get a nice one back

Yep. Recently I spent an hour trying to get them to send out a plastic piece for the case. Due to my own stupidity the tabs on the hard drive bay cover broke off so the thing was a bit loose except for where it secured with the screws. At first they wanted me to send it in but I got the distinct impression they thought it was the hard drive. I did eventually get them to send it out to me once they realize it was external and only cosmetic. They even covered it under warranty. The letter included with the replacement indicated I should not send back the part being replaced unless I wanted to pay a $50 materials handling fee so I just threw it out. Anyways I had to get them to search the system by description which is how we even found the part otherwise you need a part number which you don't have unless it was already replaced once.
