I've tracked down updated Win7 x64 drivers for most of the hardware... still hoping for a fully working IDT/Sigmatel Win7 x64 audio package and could use an official Win7 x64 driver for the modem, but it appears all the drivers I've installed are working. I can't test all the hardware options, so if you're using any of the drivers and find a problem please report. Thanks. :)

As a note, from what I've read on the net, it seems that the IDT/Sigmatel driver package for the GM965 chipset isn't being worked on anymore so it will probably take a modded driver to get a new driver/software package working correctly... see below for a link to a place that might have the answer.

    Previous post (before edit) below

I've been running around the internet and trying to find all the Win7 hardware drivers for my 6860FX and have had some success, but could still use some official Win7 64bit drivers/software for:

    IDT / Sigmatel Audio
    Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader
    Chicony Electronics WebCam
    Agere Soft Modem

So mostly I'm just wondering if anyone knows if Gateway will be releasing any driver updates for Windows 7... so far I've not been impressed by the driver support Gateway has been offering so I won't be holding my breath.

...of course if anyone can provide any help with finding the still needed drivers it would be appreciated (could use driver links or hardware/chipset info so I can search for the drivers.)

Doubtful, but the vista drivers (or the ones loaded when win7 loads) all work perfectly.

except for the IDT drivers, while the 5939 drivers still function for the most part... the mic array does not work no matter what settings or reg edits I have made.... just wish I could fix it... anyone get any other newer modded IDT drivers working?

I've been looking at "laptopvideo2go.com" and they seem to have some IDT sound driver mods in their forums, but I'm still trying to figure out just what I have to do to get them working... ???

Also, I'm very close to finding all the major driver updates for Win7.

I did try the Vista Sound drivers from Gateway, but those crashed my PC with Win7, lol... had to use safe mode to remove them.

I just need the some official sound drivers/software, the webcam software and to find the modem drivers.

on that note does anyone have the latest "Camera Assistant Software"??... I'm thinking that maybe the latest software will work with our older model webcams???? I'll post a new thread asking about it though.

What do you mean by the "mic array does not work"? I ask because I tried the v5939 drivers and was able to record audio through the webcam mic without any problems using Windows sound recorder.

Well... my mic array worked in Vista just fine with the v5939... once I started using W7 beta-RC-RTM it is installed and no problems are detected.... but when I try to record anything its like the input volume is really low, because it will only detect me tapping on the mic hole itself.... so does yours work with Windows 7?

Unless you're using some other mic hardware, mine seems to work.

I installed the 5939 drivers from the gateway website and with no modifications I loaded up Windows sound recorder and recorded some sounds using the mic at the top of the LCD panel without any issue.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Retail, full & fresh install on a Gateway 6860FX. I'm of course logged in as an Admin... though I wouldn't think that would matter too much.

I really dont know wth is wrong with mine then... it worked fine in vista and as soon as I installed W7 from scratch it stopped working.... the mic turns on and its detected and everything, just the only sound it detects is if I tap on the hole where the mic is located....it cant detect any other sound other than that..... ive been tryn to fix it for a while and damn is it frustrating... do you have any other details in how you got yours to work?

    No new details...

I formatted my HDD, then did a fresh/full install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (retail). All I've done so far is install all the drivers on my list above and install my antivirus/spyware program.

I'm using the 191.59 nVidia drivers provided by laptopvideo2go and then the 5939 Gateway audio drivers.

Have you installed the correct webcam drivers since the mic is technically part of the webcam? You can download those drivers above as well.

As a double check I just recorded my voice again... my mouth was about 3ft away from the mic and when I played it back it sounds perfect and clear (if you ignore the background noise of another computer in the room with me, lol).

If you're certain it's not a hardware issue then the gain could be set very low in the software... I'd hate to say it, but you could always try to re-install windows and see if that corrects your issues. ??

    Quick question/help.

I have a 6831FX (which I think is close enough to the 6860 to ask here). I upgraded to Windows Home premium (32 Bit), and most everything worked (had to go to gateways site and download the IDT audio drivers). The ONLY problem I have with the system now is that Sleep mode does not work anymore. When I set the power mode to sleep when I close the lid, the system hangs (at least I think it does). The LCD turns off, but all the button lights remain on, including the blue power and battery lights. I have to hard reset to get out of this condition.

I had to change to hibernate to solve this. Anyone else experience this or have a solution?

If it worked before you installed the driver you could try uninstalling the driver or using the "rollback driver" option to see if that helps. I don't have 32bit Vista or Win7 so I'm not sure how many driver versions Gateway has, but you could try and see if there's an older or newer version available to try as well.

On whim you could also try and see if the general Microsoft driver might work as well.
