I was reading this guide about how to use the OS disk to change from 32 bit to 64 bit vista. Would the recovery disk shipped with gateway laptops allow for this or are they not an actual vista installation cd?
-
The OEM disk has both 32 and 64 bit Vista.
Make sure all your software works with 64bit. There are certain programs which are not supported. -
-
I thought only Vista Ultimate came with 32 and 64-bit versions on the same DVD?
-
Well, for me, my school requires Cisco VPN to use the school networks. And sadly, Cisco VPN does not support 64 bit OSes, XP or Vista.
The disk provided by Gateway has both 32 and 64 bit Vista Home Premium. -
-
Erm, I think for the P series, yes. Not completely sure about the others. If you didn't get one, just call them up or speak to a technician on web chat and mention you didn't get one.
-
I got a windows CD with my M-152XL but it says on the cover "32 bit" specifically...maybe it still has 64 bit in it, i dont know, but i didnt see an option to go to 64 bit when i reinstalled vista.
-
I can only speak for the P-6860FX which was pre-installed with Vista Home Premium 64-bit
It came with an install disk (not a recovery disk) and has BOTH. One of the first prompts it gives you is to choose 32-bit or 64-bit install. -
What it does'nt come with ,is all of the drivers that you need to install from 64 bit to 32 bit system. The laptop includes a utility that is supposed to back all of that up but in my experience, it largely does'nt work. But, all of the drivers are available from Gateway.support.drivers page for the laptop.

this is why i tell people to just copy the whole apps directory. because it in facts has drivers for 32/64 bit and some, but not all xp.
but everyone is welcome to create the dvd back up as sugested by gateway, but you will be missing a few things if im not mistaken. (speculation of course). like if you do it under 64 bit, it doesnt copy all the 32 bit stuff. (again, speculation) someone is more than welcome to prove me wrong or i can do it later to verify, so that we all know.
but if you copy the whole directory, then you have all the drivers and software no matter what os you load. (not all xp drivers, but some are there) -
Anyone know if the P-6831FX install disk has 32 and 64bit Home Premium too?
-
-
if your gunna be gaming, wont 64 bit hurt your performance more then if you ran on 32 bit, even if the extra .5 ish of ram is recognized?
-
I have no problems gaming with vista 64bit, as far as benchmark scores maybe, but when it comes down to it, I can play the most demanding games on high settings, with no problems.
-
how does cod4 play under 64 bit?
-
COD4 plays awesome, very cool game.
-
hummm, it was crashing on me at first...but i was rushing...lol
-
so how can a p 6831fx owner get a 64 bit dvd
my laptop is only a month or so old -
order one from microsoft; i think they will only make you pay shipping.
-
-
Tried that, it won't accept the OEM product key.
-
because the key works for both 64 and 32bit -
With the oem disk you don't enter any key, it has one, but it really do not matter.
-
yeah oem disk dont ask for keys unless your being dumb and using them on a different brand of pc and then locks down and you required to buy a key or use a key that you have
-
Do you really really need it? Not me
