I bought the Gateway 7422gx laptop and I like everything but the slow 4200 RPM HD. If I was to buy this HD: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...-146-020&depa=0 would I be able to stick my restore DVD in and get it running?

Also, if you know of another 7200 RPM HD that is better or if you've seen this one for cheaper let me know. Thanks.

it might work. if i were you i would get a copy of a full version of xp pro and install that. it has all the drivers execpt maybe for the sound or 56k modem. i have a toshiba and thats what i did. any of the missing drives you dont have you can get off of gateways site. then of there were any software you did want off the restore cd, you can prolly pull it off the cd and install it that way.

    hope that helps

The recovery disc should work. Hitachi is the only one who makes 7200RPM drives at the moment. Seagate is supposed to be coming out with some, but they are not here yet. Your link is busted. If it is for th 60GB version of the drive, there is a 40GB version as well. It runs around $115 on Pricegrabber.
