    Hey all,
Just a quick question that may be retarded to some, but here goes anyway. I just picked up the 6860FX and am already on the upgrade path. I bought another 320gb Scorpio to fill in the empty space. Right now they are both running separate with one running Vista x86 and the other running Vista 64bit. I'm most likely going to RAID 0 them and have a question. I REALLY don't wanna reinstall the OS(I know I should have RAIDED them first, but I wasn't thinking) so right now im imaging the 64bit drive with Acronis with the thoughts that I can just setup RAID in the bios, pop the Acronis recovery CD in and reimage straight to the RAID array. I have done this previously on my desktop with 2 Raptors with no problems, but that was with a VIA chipset and a completely different beast altogether. Does this seem feasible to you?? Are there any problems I may run into with this machine? Thanks for your insight in advance.

Yeah you could run into serious problems doing that. If I were you I would re-install the OS from scratch. Doesn't take long and it will probably save you having to sort some serious data issues.

try it, i think it should work unless the acronis is sensitive to the physical characteristics of the hdd (but you say you've done it b4).

i would do some reading as to advantages / disadvantages of raid0, performance / significantly increased risk of data loss.
especially if you have one drive that is significantly faster than the other.

FYI. And for future search purposes, This was an ultimate fail. Everything transferred over fine and the machine would start to boot, but throw a quick bluescreen and reboot about 5 seconds into the moving bar at the bottom. I *BELIEVE* this was due to the RAID driver not being installed previous to the image being created and Vista didnt know what to do with the RAID array. I think had I implemented into the image, it *probably* would have worked. I just restored from the Gateway Vista DVD provided and the driver restore disc made before the RAID. Thank god I made that.

You did. However, it wasn't about heeding a warning, as I really had nothing to loose. I was determined to get RAID setup either way. The image restoration would have been faster if it would have worked, but no matter. In all actuality the re-image was a minor success, as the data WAS successfully restored to the array it just wasn't bootable. I now don't have to deal with re-transferring 100gb of music, pictures, etc from an external drive. I just need to move from one directory to another.
