I have a 6860fx Laptop with Windows 7 professional x64 installed. And on random occasions when it wakes up from sleep it goes to a blank screen. The LCD is back lit, but no display. I am not sure if the pc is completly hung or just not showing display. I never had this issue with Vista. The bad thing is it is random, so it can happen twice a day or not happen for 3 days. It isn't a certain amount of times or length it is put into sleep mode.

There are no errors in event Viewer.
I have drivers for everything in Device Viewer
I also installed the MS Hotfix for the Black screen problem

I just have to hold the power in and restart.

I have all the following drivers installed:

Interesting issue. I have the exact same problem with Vista 64 Home. I remember reading across multiple forums that it's an issue with Nvidia's display driver, although I've yet to be able to sort out the issue. My problem is consistent however, it happens every time I wake the computer from sleep and requires a hard reboot via holding in the power button.

Strangely enough, this only started to occur once I reinstalled my OS after a HDD upgrade.

Check if this fixes the issue. Worth a try.

I will try that, I just wish it wou,d do it more consitant. I installed that MS hotfix and I thought it fixed it, but I got it again this morning. If not I am going to try some different drivers.

I tried it yesterday and it looks to have solved it. I'd wait for a month testing it out to be sure. Looks to be an instant fix though.

I'm assuming that is only a 7805 fix as doing such unfortunately did not work on my 6860.

I think that it is actually a different issue entirely that I have also experienced on my 7805, since that fix is for a black screen during restart and yours says resuming from sleep. If I remember right it actually happened all the time, randomly, or not at all depending on the video driver I was using at the time. Did it start happening after a video driver change for you? I have yet to see it using DOX's 195.62 v1.1 if you'd like to give them a go (powermizer off).

Its more of a Windows 7 issue with FX(may or may not work for other FX models than 7805) after the upgrades(Clean or upgrade). Not sure if it will work with Vista. Certainly worth a try for those whose been having it only with Windows 7.

I'm on the 195.62 driver now from Nvidia. Any difference with the DOX's drivers? Before I did an OS reinstall, I was on Nvidia's 186 drivers. Perhaps I'll try the 186 or DOX's driver's and see if it resolves the issue.

I always find Dox's drivers more stable, even though they're supposed to be "optimized for actual gaming" with whatever tweaks he does. But yeah, it's worth a shot, you could also try using the driver upgrade guide here to clean up the drivers and install them fresh, even though I don't usually have issues just simply running the installers. =] Hope it helps. Try different video drivers, hopefully something works for you.

No problem, but as always this is what worked for me, and it is on a different machine so it's not guaranteed to be the problem/solution, but I do hope it works for you.

Yup unfortunately neither the DOX's drivers or the previous 186 nvidia driver solved the problem. For now I'm stumped, I guess I'll continue to avoid using sleep.

I have, yes. I found a useful bit of troubleshooting through google searching and the hiberfil.sys file was one that was suspect to effect sleep through vista.

Either way, neither setting (hibernation on or off) changed the issue I'm having.

I found with the P7805 and 9c.23.00 I no longer need the legacy drive for the 1394. I don't think the 6860 had such a bios update though.
