I would not recommend using Windows 7 with the 7811fx.
Because with Vista everything is fast like it should be.
BUT.... with Windows 7... there is a time lag problem in the graphics.
There is a delay when I create shortcuts on my Desktop. This happens when I am running Windows 7 on my 7811FX. When I drag the icon over to make the shortcut... there is a 5 second delay before the Icon appears on my desktop. It is the worst when I make shortcuts from the Control Panel Options(icons). I did an expert installation of all the software.. so maybe this version of windows 7 is not compatible with the 7811fx??

What graphics drivers did you install and which adapter is in that particular laptop model?
-
This sounds odd... I'm running Beta 1 of Win7 on my desktop and it's faster than my Vista Business install on the same machine, and the RC and RTM versions of Win7 are showing to be faster than what I'm already running.
Sounds like a borked driver.
That's the 9800m GTX, right? Is this the driver you installed?

yes.... I have the most recent driver from Nvidia made for the 9800M GTS. (the same exact driver you are talking about) I tried a new installation of Windows 7 with the same results. I do computer repair part time and I am very good at software installation. I am going to try this same exact installation on a 7805U to see if I get the same results. But it wil be a few day before I get the 7805U to test.

I have an earlier RC build and it isn't sluggish at all, very smooth actually on my 7811. I sure hope the final release isn't sluggish on this and it's just an issue related to yours

The only factor I can think of that's changing things here is that you're saying it's Win7 Enterprise... There's lots of networking stuff in Enterprise that may be making things weird. At a previous job we had a proxy server that took 45 minutes to boot because we had so many network connections.
I'm willing to bet that Home Premium would run swimmingly on your machine. Enterprise is meant for servers, is it not? -
I believe that type of OS "might" be the problem or maybe another factor can be occurring. I have a full Legit Genuine copy of Windows 7 Pro installed and running on my FX 7811 (Love the membership I have to get the software from microsoft) . There are no issues at all. The graphics drive installed is DOX 185.85 and it is fully working without any sluggish performance or implications.
One thing for sure is that Windows 7 IS a needed upgrade to all FX users. There is a problem with your setup if your PC is sluggish you may have to check for anything you installed improperly, and if not well check to see if there are some high level of disk activity which is preventing the machine from normal operations.
Strange though the only thing that should not work in an FX7811 is the O2 SD adapter since it does not have drivers after a clean install. (only do Clean Installs never upgrades save yourself a headache and a hell of a lot of time ) -
yes... you are right... just the media card reader driver and NVIDIA video driver are needed. But... is it necessary to install the Intel chipset driver after installing Windows 7? And if I am not using raid... I assume there is no need to install the Intel Matrix Driver... correct?
-
You can always try MS to see if you can get any updated drivers. Just use IE.
What do you mean by?
When you uninstall the driver use driversweeper. -
him... I updated the Intel chipset but did not install the matrix controller
It is very strange indeed. If you have done windows update and all checks out fine is there a software you installed that is not designed for Vista/windows 7 or maybe there something starting up with your computer that is causing the issue. Maybe you should just reinstall the system and only load the necessary drivers the Video Drivers and the SD adapter. But in an order and a test. Graphics drivers first check the temps for it run a benchmark if no issues install the SD adapter drivers and re check (I had an issue with those drivers before which caused system instability but it was because the driver info was corrupt. reinstalled and fixed the system instability) also check your antivirus some have reported issues with windows 7. I know there is something else but I can’t recall at the moment. -
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed on my 7811fx and it's runs amazingly smooth. I thought all of the Windows 7 hype was infact that, just hype, but it's honestly not. It's a great OS.

Running Win7 Ultimate. The only lag I have is in Rise of Nations not online (the only game I tried). There is an odd lag periodically that was not in Vista. RoN is not particularly challenging on video so this is strange. I used most current chipset and Matrix. It feels like the lag has to do with HD access but hard to tell. Using Dox video driver I think. Will try others later. I have no lagging under other conditions.
