I am thinking about reformatting my p-7811 FX 8 that currently has windows 7 and installing windows 8. Has one installed windows 8 (new install) on their 7811's? Did you notice better or worse performance?

You should for the OS experience in general better performance with Windows 8 over Windows 7...............

Not unless you have a touch screen. If you read 90% of the comments on the web about Win8 it was designed for ipads and the like for use with touch screens.

It works fine, you just have to get over the select desktop from Metro. Once at the desk top it is easy enough to stay there once the system is set up..........

Yep, been dual booting Windows 7 and 8 now for about 2 to 3 months. Windows 8 runs just fine on my 7811FX. It does, as most will say, take some time to get used to. Going to the desktop vs. the "Metro" is easy enough, however the Windows Start menu is gone. That is one of the things that takes the most time to get used to LOL. At least it was for me.
Performance wise it does actually seem a little bit snappier than Windows 7. I would entertain dual booting and leaving Windows 7 on until your sure you want to make the change. -

What about gaming performance on Windows 8? Any improvements over Windows 7 after upgrade?

I can not speak for C2D's on the platform but CQD's get a small boost. This is from less per die conflict and tying up the memory bus duplicate filling the L2's. It is akin on the CQD, of a C2D going from 2.66 GHz to 2.93 GHz and how that may effect your playability.

Can't really say to be honest. Really haven't tried gaming on the Windows 8 partition yet.
The overall performance seems a little snappier though, so I am figuring that gaming on Windows 8 will be a bit better as well. -
I have been gaming on Win 8 for about a month now and am very pleased with it. Seen decent increases in fps in most games and booting off my SSD is almost instant with Win 8. All my applications/web browser are also much much faster.

I want to add for future readers that in order to install the Conexant High Definition Audio driver in Windows 8, I had to run the Setup.exe in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

That is the main jest of the problem poorly designed Interface without no regards to giving users install Desktop mode or Metro mode a non starter to begin with. Also no regards on how much screen cleaning will be needed as one knows the habits of a PC users will be stuffing their face and have greasy fingers on screen that isn't set at the right position to properly use touchscreen nor is it ergonomic and a physical strain on the body.
Even more doubts this O/S takes into account there are older operational laptops that still can run and be used to work/play and still function. I have W7x64 Ult Sp1 on my P-68 and P-78 and both run and looks great. -

Does anyone else have audio crackling and stuttering on Windows 8? The problem was bad before I installed the Conexant driver, and although I thought the problem was fixed at first, the problem is still very bad with the Conexant driver. Basically, doing CPU and I/O intensive tasks like loading web pages or closing tabs in the web browser and compiling code causes audio playback in iTunes or Windows Media Player to crackle or stutter (repeat sequences).
