I think I should have posted this here...

I'm typing right now from Safe Mode.

    Here's what happened:

I installed Darkfall to try it out. Was running good for about 15 minutes. Then my computer freezes, restarts, and now I can't get into Normal Windows, but I can get into Safe Mode. I believe my graphics card overheated. But it seems fine cause I'm using my computer right now, just in safe mode =/

First I thought it was Darkfall, so I unistalled it. Nothing

Second, I thought it was Visual C++ it installed. Nothing

I tried fixing the registery with CCleaner. Nothing

I tried last known configuration. Nothing

My last resort is a OS reinstall, but I'm trying to avoid that. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok go to the search bar in the start menu in Vista. Type in : System Configuration. Click on it to go the System Configuration window and then click on the boot tab. When there edit the options to boot up in Normal OS.

That might just be the problem.

report back when you have done this.

When I go to the boot section of the System Configuration screen it says Current OS; Default OS.

I'm not sure where the option for Normal OS is.

Hmm if you are using Vista it is normal for you to have a few fissures in your OS lol. Try out what i said and see what happens.

It should force Windows in to NORMAL BOOT. So it should work. Cross your fingers. XD

October i believe. I am using the RTM right now and i must say. This OS is exceptionally well made and deserves a freakin' award.

You can always go to www.microsoft.com and get the Release Candidate.

When it comes out in October will I just be able to activate it or will I have to reinstall everything?

Also, what do I do about drivers? lol

well I thought everything was fine. I logged back into Normal Windows after I uninstalled the video drivers, driver sweeper and everything. VGA drivers install perfectly. I can use my computer now, woot!

Well I go online and download new drivers. And install them, everything goes good. Restart computer, I login. I see my icons, bitlord pop's up, then out of no where my screen goes white. ?!

I tried the official nvidia drivers from the site, instead of white my screen turns black!

Any one have any ideas on this issue?

Did you OC at any time? In safe mode your card is in 2D mode so it's not stressed.

Set screen rez to 800x600, in safe mode, then normal restart. What happens?

    Old drivers fully uninstalled?

yes, I have OC'ed once, but it was only a test and probably was done over a year ago. All settings should be default. I will try setting the res to 800x600 when I get home in 30 minutes.

Where would you be getting at with this though? Cause I remember actually that it did work when it booted in 640x480 I believe, then I set it to 1440x900 and tried playing CS and it froze A LOT. Went to desktop and I saw and error saying driver has stopped responding and has restarted. Try rebooting and got the white screen again.

Sounds like ya got a bad driver install. i have not had to install drivers in a while, but un-installing the old ones, fully, can be a real pita.

Re-read the stickies, seems to be an nvidia bug. Try installing your original drivers, some of the new ones aren't all that.

that all I can think of, bad driver install. I'm going to try another one from the driver website when I get home. Has 11,000 downloads, hopefully its good.

    *crosses fingers*

Ok everything works with the Windows Updated Drivers, EXCEPT 3D games. I can play Starcraft just fine. But when I try playing Counter Strike Source or Call of Duty 4 after 15 seconds the game freezes and the screen goes white.

Thanks for all the help in this thread.

I finally decided to restore back to the orginal factory. Once this was complete, I installed world in conflict and got the same white screen after 15 seconds.

From what I can see and tell, it can't be a software or driver issue. I'm running everything as it was when it first came out of the box. Out of the box I was able to run World in Conflict easily.

I believe it might be an over heating problem, so I'm just gonna call Gateway and have them deal with it since cause it is still under warranty.

My last question is, how can a game, Darkfall in this instance, cause all these problems? Before Darkfall I was playing COD4 and CS:S regularly with out a problem. Then I install this game and my computer went to crap. Makes no sense.

Coding. What may look mediocre on screen may have your GPU sweating bullets.

F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate gets my GPU into simmer mode, go figure.

Good luck with your screen, let us know if GW treated you right.

I just got no hope from my friend. He said he used to work for Gateway support. He told me if I tell them that 3D games are shutting down within 15 seconds that they would tell me to contact the games support.

Ugh...any one have experience with Gateway support?
